Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, configuration and development of the Trust's Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system, supporting the delivery of safe, effective and efficient digital healthcare services.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, configuring and developing EPR functionality to support clinical and operational workflows.
  • Translating business and clinical requirements into practical digital solutions.
  • Developing electronic forms, templates, pathways and workflows within the EPR environment.
  • Supporting integration between the EPR and other clinical, pharmacy and operational systems.
  • Working closely with clinicians, pharmacists, operational teams and third-party suppliers to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Producing technical documentation, specifications and configuration records.
  • Undertaking system testing, troubleshooting and issue resolution activities.
  • Ensuring solutions meet clinical safety, information governance and cyber security requirements.
  • Providing technical advice and support to users and stakeholders.
  • Contributing to digital transformation projects that improve patient care, staff experience and organisational efficiency.

As an EPR Configuration Developer, you will be responsible for the design, configuration, development and support of digital solutions within the Trust's Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system. Working as part of the wider Digital and Digital Medicines teams, you will collaborate with clinicians, pharmacists, operational teams and third-party suppliers to develop innovative solutions that improve patient care, enhance clinical workflows and support the Trust's digital transformation programme.

The post holder will analyse clinical and operational requirements and translate these into robust, user-focused digital solutions. This will include the development and configuration of electronic forms, clinical documentation, workflows, pathways, templates and other system functionality to support safe and efficient healthcare delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, configuring and maintaining functionality within the EPR system.
  • Translating business and clinical requirements into technical solution designs and functional specifications.
  • Developing and supporting digital solutions using EPR configuration tools and associated web technologies.
  • Working closely with stakeholders to ensure solutions meet operational, clinical, reporting and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting the development of integrated solutions between the EPR and other healthcare systems, including pharmacy applications.
  • Performing system testing, troubleshooting and issue resolution activities to ensure solutions are safe, reliable and fit for purpose.
  • Producing and maintaining technical documentation, configuration records, test scripts and support materials.
  • Supporting clinical safety, information governance and cyber security requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Providing advice, guidance and technical support to users and project teams.
  • Collaborating with suppliers, regional partners and internal stakeholders to deliver successful digital transformation projects.
  • Monitoring system performance and identifying opportunities for service improvement and innovation.
  • Supporting go-live activities, system upgrades and ongoing optimisation of digital solutions.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent

  • Significant NHS IT working experience
  • Extensive exposure and knowledge of NHS systems including patient administration systems and clinical systems
  • Significant experience of working with third party suppliers

Desirable

  • Experience in development using Java Script, HTML, jQuery and CSS including academic experience.
  • Knowledge of SQL
  • Experience of working with operational teams and reviewing full end to end processes with a focus on digital systems design.
  • Understanding of system architecture including knowledge of integration between systems
