The pharmacy clinical trials service at Barts Health has seen significant investment over the last few years and the evolving team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and assistants manage an ever expanding portfolio of clinical trials. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Assistant Technical Officer to join the team and develop skills within clinical research. We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic person who has proven organisational and communication skills and exceptional attention to detail. You will be responsible for IMP (stock) management, dispensing and the smooth running of Clinical Trials at Barts Health, and ensure they are being managed according to the regulatory requirements for research. This is a permanent position based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. The role is full time, Monday-Friday (with additional weekend and bank holiday commitments). Main duties of the job

The purpose of this role is to provide support to the efficient and smooth running of processes associated with clinical trials at the dedicated site. Including set up, maintenance and close down of clinical trials and effective delivery of the trials medicines to patients.

The post holder will be expected to work with minimal day to day supervision, use their initiative and be proactive when issues arise. Regular communication within the team needs to be maintained in relation to working practices, procedures and changes. A good working relationship with colleagues and other healthcare staff needs to be fostered and maintained at all times.

Applicant requirements

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills
  • IT literate; Able to use Microsoft Office programmes proficiently
  • Able to plan own work and the supervision of others in a clear and organised way
  • Able to work alone or as part of a team, with different grades of staff
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Able to work to policies and procedures

  • Able to use CMM (JAC) and BD Cato

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understand issues involved in stock control and medicines distribution
  • Interested in and have knowledge of the use of drugs

Experience

  • Proven experience of good performance in previous Pharmacy posts.
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy clinical trials, aseptics or dispensary services
  • Experience of working in a team
  • Experience in training others
  • Experience in customer care environment

  • Level 2 Pharmacy services Assistant

Desirable

  • GCSE grades A -C or 9-4 • English Language • Maths • Science Or functional skills Level 2 in Maths and English
