Are you ready to take the next step in your Neonatal career and lead a team that makes a real difference to families every single day? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior nurse to take on the role as the Band 7 Ward Manager leading our Neonatal Unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Are you someone with extensive Neonatal experience, with proven leadership skills and the vision and passion to help develop the Neonatal Unit? You will need to be pro-active in decision making, with a forward-focused approach and good collaborative skills to deliver high-quality care to our Neonatal patients and their families.

Youll be fully-supported by our Neonatal Matron, to give you the structure and mentorship to flourish in this exciting leadership position.

Main duties of the job

We are a compassionate team, who are committed to ensuring babies have the best outcomes and quality care. Family Integrated Care (FiCare) is at the heart of everything we do, working in partnership with families to ensure they are fully-involved at every stage of their babys journey.

We are seeking Applications from nurses who are innovative. You will provide clinical leadership, expertise, advice and support to the Nursing and multi-disciplinary team.

You hold accountability for patient safety and family experience on the Neonatal Unit. You will need to be able to professionally-challenge, hold the Team to account and be driven to make sustainable improvements.

It is essential that you act as a role model, maintaining and upholding high standards of professional behaviour and compassionate care.

Job responsibilities

The Ward / Department Manager has 24-hour accountability for patient safety and patient experience on their Ward / Department, including line-management of their staff.

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post-registration experience, some of which will be at a senior level within the required specialist area of practice.
  • Experience of change management.
  • Thorough understanding of contemporary nursing issues.
  • Experience of leading a team.
  • Evidence of innovation in practice.
  • Participation in recruitment and selection process.

Desirable

  • Experience of working at Band 6 and / or Band 7.
  • Experience of service re-design.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current NMC Registration (Level 1 Adult Nurse).
  • Degree in Nursing studies or healthcare-related subject (UK equivalent).
  • Masters level study, or equivalent specialist study / experience.
  • Mentorship Certificate / Practice Assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • Management and leadership training.
  • ILM qualification.

Physical Skills

Essential

  • Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of leadership qualities.
  • Awareness of national Health and Social Care policy.
  • Knowledge of best practice in area of specialism.
  • Thorough understanding of expanded roles / professional practice issues.
  • Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required.
  • Able to work without supervision.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Proven interpersonal skills.
  • Practice Assessor / supervision skills.
  • Appraisal skills.
  • Evidence of competency in relation to nursing practices appropriate to the Post.

Desirable

  • Understanding of budget and financial control systems.
  • Research skills.
