Job overview

The post holder must ensure the provision of high-quality patient care by providing an efficient and effective administration service for the Consultants, designated Medical Staff and other health care professionals.

To monitor the timetable of the consultant and registrars, taking an overview of the co-ordination of theatre commitments. To communicate admission related information to patients and/or carers.

To support the administrative pathway ensuring patients are seen within the mandatory waiting time targets and book theatre sessions to full capacity to make sure utilisation is meeting trust and NHS targets.

Liaising with multiple teams including pre-assessment admin & nurses, anaesthetists and theatre staff/managers to make sure theatre admissions for patients are booked in a timely manner. Also making sure that any equipment for theatres is arranged.

Main duties of the job

  • To co-ordinate and be responsible for the provision of full secretarial and administrative services to the Consultant and his/her team for theatre bookings
  • Management of the Consultant’s diary for theatres and scheduling procedure dates accordingly.
  • To maintain an overview of the consultant and team timetable to ensure full utilisation of theatre availability.
  • To arrange special investigations and action other issues arising from pre-assessment appointments, ensuring that all tasks are dealt with in order according to their urgency
  • Taking appropriate action to ensure that requests for diagnostics and follow-up appointments are processed in a timely fashion
