We provide our nurses and ODPs with the training, support and staffing required to deliver safe, compassionate and high-quality care. Our theatre departments include seven modern theatres in Chelsea, including three robotic theatres, and two theatres in Sutton. We cover a diverse range of surgical specialties, including Sarcoma and Melanoma, Upper and Lower GI, Plastics, Head and Neck, Gynaecology, Urology and Breast, using a wide range of conventional, minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques.
Main duties of the job
- To be a expert practitioner in Recovery and act as an effective, professional and clinical role model. To lead, co-ordinate, organise and take full responsibility and accountability for the daily management and organisation of Recovery in Chelsea; this involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities including staff management. To work in accordance with the NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct, Trust policies and Procedures and National guidelines.
- As a member of the theatre team to perform all the tasks of an ODP/theatre nurse including all checks and procedures as laid down in National and Trust Theatre Policy. To demonstrate sound knowledge base of safe decontamination processes and practices, particularly relating to the safe decontamination of flexible scopes & sterilisation of instruments
- As a member of the surgical theatres team perform the tasks of theatre runner, supporting the instrument nurse/ surgeon and other members of the multidisciplinary team where necessary.

- To provide sound clinical leadership and develop support mechanisms for sharing good practice within the Department and Trust wide.
- Monitor the quality of clinical care and action audit information to achieve agreed standards and take the lead on customer care initiatives.
- Takes the lead in ensuring the provision of care is in accordance with the Trust’s policies and procedures.
- In conjunction with the staff team, to lead in developing implementing, evaluating and maintaining a Departmental ethos and a standard approach to the delivery of excellent patient centred care.
- To act as patient advocate in line with the NHS plan and to actively apply in depth knowledge of holistic/ socio-economic and cultural aspects of the care to clients within your specific speciality, acting as a role model and resource for patients, relatives and staff.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, actively seeking evidence based practice which will support clinical outcomes as appropriate.
