Job summary

Are you an experienced and compassionate midwifery leader looking for your next challenge? We are seeking an exceptional Team Leader of Antenatal Ward and Maternity Assessment Centre to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, providing leadership across our Antenatal Service. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and support teams delivering high-quality, personalised care to women and families across a diverse and vibrant city. Working closely with the Matron and Deputy Head of Midwifery and Head of Midwifery, you will provide clinical, operational and professional leadership to community midwives, driving excellence in care, supporting staff development and contributing to the ongoing transformation of maternity services. We are looking for a visible, supportive leader who is passionate about improving outcomes for women and families, empowering teams and delivering evidence-based practice.

Main duties of the job

The role requires direct management of a team of midwives and maternity support workers. The jobholder is responsible for the ward/department clinical budget as determined by finance for each year. The Jobholder will have responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the maternity ward/department). They will provide clinical and professional management and leadership for the team. The jobholder is responsible for ensuring the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care are maintained to a high standard. They will manage the administrative and financial aspects of Ward/department and ensuring cost effective use of resources. Please see Job Description for further information.

What you will bring to the role

We are looking for an experienced Registered Midwife who can demonstrate:

  • Significant post-registration experience, including experience within acute maternity, antenatal inpatient care, maternity assessment, triage or comparable services.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire, motivate and support teams.
  • Experience of managing workforce performance, recruitment, appraisal and staff development.
  • A commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, woman-centred and evidence-based care.
  • Experience of service improvement, quality assurance, clinical audit and change management.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills, including the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary colleagues and external partners.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across organisational and professional boundaries.
  • Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills in a complex and fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of current national maternity priorities, professional standards and the importance of timely escalation, risk assessment and safe patient flow.
  • A passion for developing others and creating positive learning environments for staff and students.
  • A compassionate, inclusive and visible leadership style aligned to the values of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
