An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and experienced nurse leader to take on the role of Urology Sister (Band 7) at one of the largest and most respected Urology Centres in the country. Based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, this position offers the chance to lead a high-performing clinical team in a fast-paced, specialist outpatient setting that delivers complex, innovative, and patient-centred urological care.
The Urology Centre provides comprehensive services across general and specialist urology, including cancer diagnostics, andrology, continence, stone disease, benign urological conditions, and pre- and post-operative care. With state-of-the-art facilities and a strong reputation for excellence, the Centre serves as a national referral hub, combining clinical care with cutting-edge research and innovation.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will manage a team of nurses and healthcare support workers, supporting them through appraisal, supervision, and continuing professional development. They will ensure that staff are well-trained, competent, and confident in delivering specialist urological care. Working closely with the Practice Development Team, the role includes supporting training in catheter care, stoma care, patient education, and new diagnostic technologies.
Operationally, the post holder will monitor budgets, lead on rostering, and ensure effective resource management to meet the demands of a high-throughput service. They will support recruitment, retention, and workforce planning, using data to inform decision-making and service improvements.
As part of the wider leadership team, the Sister/Charge Nurse will participate in clinical governance activities including audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations. They will also contribute to policy development and service redesign projects to enhance patient safety and experience. The post holder will be expected to lead and support quality improvement initiatives, using patient feedback to drive innovation and uphold the Trust’s values of being caring, ambitious, and inclusive.

- Experience in staff / practice development including undertaking appraisals and Personal development plans
- Extensive experience of managing an area; including management of rotas, resources, budgets and staff.
- Experience in managing outpatient areas
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop multidisciplinary teams to achieve organisational objectives.
- Strong knowledge of governance, quality improvement, risk management, and regulatory requirements
- Experience managing performance, sickness absence, disciplinary processes, and employee relations issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with staff, patients, and stakeholders.

Qualifications/ Education
Essential
- RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality

- Evidence of ongoing professional development in relevant area of speciality supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD
