Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team at the Emergency Department (ED) at the Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) in the heart of Leeds city centre. We are looking for a knowledgeable, committed and resilient registered Nurse to help lead and maintain our high standards, embed routine and manage the day to day care of our patients within the department. The LGI ED is based within the Urgent Care Clinical Service Unit (CSU) at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT).

Main duties of the job

Within the Major Trauma Centre at the LGI a fantastic exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen. We are currently looking for dynamic self-motivated band 7 Senior Sister / Charge Nurse to join our team in the ED. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to support the Matron, and the nursing and medical team to ensure expert high quality care is delivered and maintained. We are looking for a knowledgeable, committed and resilient Nurse to help lead and maintain our high standards, embed routine and manage the day to day care of our patients within the unit. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to support the Matrons and the department; if you have compassion energy and a genuine dedication to patient care then wed like you to apply. You need to be a registered Adult nurse with a recognised teaching and assessing qualification. Experience in Emergency Medicine is essential and as LGI is a Major Trauma Centre, Trauma knowledge is desirable.

Job responsibilities

You will be required:

  • To take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area.
  • You will lead by example and inspire best practice whilst supporting your team to provide excellent care through the ethos of the Leeds Way Values.
  • To lead and develop an identified team of nurses within the ED ensuring professional development is maintained through timely specific Appraisal identified needs.
  • To act as a clinical resource within the ED.
  • To act as a positive role model.
  • The successful applicant will need to demonstrate recent change management and implementation, a clear understanding of Leeds Teaching Hospitals Key aims and objectives and a sound understanding of workforce management.
  • To have an understanding of the Emergency Care Standard (ECS) and assist the senior management team in delivering this.
  • To have a good understanding of relevant local and national health agenda items.
  • Candidates will have to ensure a high level of timely care is delivered.

The ED covers a 24 hour service and will therefore include days, nights and weekends.

LTHT was formed in April 1998, following the merger of two smaller NHS trusts in the city.
