Senior HR Advisor

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Senior HR Advisor to join the People team at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in the heart of London.

St Bartholomew’s Hospital is the oldest in the country is home to Barts Heart Centre, the largest specialist cardiac Centre in the UK as well as the St Barts Cancer Centre, a leading treatment Centre.

As a business partnering function, you will work closely with all services on the site including cancer, cardiac, respiratory, fertility and endocrine. You will support the HR Business Partners in delivering a customer focused service and will be the first point of contact for managers and staff with queries and concerns. You should have a good knowledge of employee relations processes – delivering advice to managers with confidence in line with policy and case law. You will also be given specific projects to stretch your skills and abilities to help develop you further within the advisory role, along with receiving relevant training to support you as you grow.

Main duties of the job

  • Reporting to the HR Manager and with matrix leadership from the People Partners for Corporate Services, the post holder will ensure the provision of professional, customer-focussed HR advice, coaching and solutions to designated Directorate/Services across Bart’s Health. • To ensure Corporate Trust People policies and procedures are translated and applied locally within operating frameworks. • Working in partnership with managers to develop and deliver an effective employee relations service at the Bart which is a crucial element of the overall People Strategy that will deliver an approach to people management that embodies a people-centered culture of learning. • This role is responsible for supporting the management and co-ordination of the employee relations casework, ensuring that case work is carried out consistently in an effective and efficient way in accordance with Barts Health policies and procedures, current legislation and best practice

  • Current knowledge of employment legislation, case law and good HR practice

  • Understanding of NHS People Strategy

Experience

Essential

  • Generalist HR experience demonstrating competence across a range of HR
  • Track record of providing HR advice to services and managers in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Experience of advising managers on employee relations matters eg: disciplinary, grievance, sickness, capability including complex cases with minimal supervision
  • Experience of working as an HR Advisor in a large complex organisation with union recognition
  • Experience of supporting change management
  • Experience of developing through coaching/training on a range of People policies

Desirable

  • Experience of working with performance metrics/data to guide and direct strategy
  • Experience of working at HR Advisor level in the NHS

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience
  • CIPD or equivalent
