We are seeking to appoint 2 x Fixed Term Roles.
Working as part of the Velindre University NHS Trust (VUNHST) Digital Services Team, the Senior Digital Infrastructure Lead plays a key role in delivering secure, reliable, and high-performing IT infrastructure across the organisation, supporting both the Welsh Blood Service and Velindre Cancer Centre.
You will use specialist technical expertise to design, support, and improve infrastructure services across on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments, ensuring systems meet organisational and non-functional requirements while enabling ongoing transformation and service optimisation.
You will take a flexible, innovative approach, supported by strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to support service delivery, collaborate with stakeholders, and drive improvements aligned to organisational priorities.
You will be expected to:
- Provide expert operational and technical support across infrastructure services
- Lead complex incident resolution and preventative improvements
- Monitor performance and maintain secure, compliant systems
- Support infrastructure design, planning, and implementation
- Work collaboratively to deliver high-quality digital services
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation
- Ensure services meet SLAs and organisational standards
- Participate in an on-call rota as required
Main duties of the job
Experience of working within a senior IT Infrastructure role and support environment is essential. Proven experience and knowledge in the following areas is required:
- Managing and supporting secure, reliable IT infrastructure across on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments
- Infrastructure design, implementation, and ongoing service improvement aligned to organisational needs
- Diagnosing and resolving complex incidents, including root cause analysis and preventative actions
- Monitoring system and service performance using infrastructure tools, ensuring alignment with SLAs
- Leading or contributing to infrastructure projects, including planning, design, testing, and implementation
- Working knowledge of IT service management frameworks (e.g. ITIL) in operational and project environments
- Experience with virtualised environments, operating systems, and enterprise infrastructure platforms
- Knowledge of automation, scripting, and infrastructure management tools
- Maintaining secure systems within information governance, cyber security, and compliance frameworks
- Collaborating with technical teams, stakeholders, and suppliers to deliver high-quality services
- Supporting staff development through mentoring, coaching, and team collaboration
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organisational skills
- Experience of asset and infrastructure lifecycle management, ensuring value for money
- Excellent communication skills, including presenting complex technical information
