The Role
This role is designed for someone looking to build a career in database administration within a complex, business-critical healthcare environment.
You will support the day-to-day operation of key database systems, ensuring they remain secure, available, and performing effectively. Working alongside senior DBAs, you will gain hands-on experience in database maintenance, monitoring, and incident support, with clear progression opportunities as your skills develop.
The working pattern for this role is Monday to Friday (times to be discussed)
In this key role, you will:
- Monitor database systems to ensure availability, performance, and stability
- Execute routine maintenance tasks including backups, integrity checks, and scheduled jobs
- Support database deployments and changes under supervision
- Assist with performance monitoring and escalation of issues
- Manage database access requests, ensuring appropriate security controls
- Contribute to incident investigation by gathering logs and diagnostics
- Maintain accurate documentation, including runbooks and operational procedures
- Drive continuous improvement, modernisation, and lifecycle management of applications including upgrades and migrations
What You'll Bring:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience, preferably in a computer related discipline. They should have significant experience in a senior technical support management role in an information technology department.
- Experience and evidence (training courses etc.) in an enterprise RDMS from vendors such as Microsoft or Oracle.
- Be skilled in up to date server operating software particularly from vendors such as Microsoft
- Skilled in the use of standard desktop software i.e. Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledge of Clinical Diagnostic, Patient Management, Clinical Support & Business Services use within healthcare.
- A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
