THIS OPPORTUNITY IS RINGFENCED TO CURRENT BAND 6 AND ABOVE WITHIN THE SAFEGUARDING TEAM.
We are seeking applications from a motivated, compassionate and experienced nurse to work in the Safeguarding Adults Team as a Band 7 Safeguarding Adult Advisor. You will assist the Named Nurse Safeguarding Adults to deliver proactive safeguarding services, contributing to the operational and strategic development of safeguarding adults across the organisation, ensuring that all adults at risk of harm are effectively safeguarded. The role encompasses promoting a positive culture of safeguarding to ensure it is part of everyday practice.
Main duties of the job
The individual should have excellent communication, and organisational skills, must be flexible in approach and able to work on own initiative whilst demonstrating a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity.
The individual must be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of adult safeguarding issues within a busy acute hospital, community setting and the wider health economy.
The successful candidate will be required to work across all sites and work closely with the Safeguarding Childrens Advisors and Domestic Abuse Health Advocates to promote a culture of Think family.
Administrative abilities and experience of working with computer packages such as Microsoft, Meditech and EMIS are essential for this post.

Job responsibilities
The Named Nurse Safeguarding Adults leads the co-ordination of the adult safeguarding team throughout the Trust, with the Safeguarding Adults Advisor raising awareness of essential adult safeguarding practice.
The post supports the operational delivery of safeguarding adults at risk within a clinical governance framework throughout the trust and includes the general raising of awareness of adult safeguarding practice throughout adult services.
Work as part of the wider safeguarding team in providing advice, support, supervision, practice development, record management, quality audits and training relating to all issues of adults at risk and in need of protection.
Work in partnership with other statutory, voluntary and healthcare agencies.
To develop, implement and evaluate comprehensive training programmes for all staff groups from induction to specialist courses.
To be proactive in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of safeguarding processes, actions and outcomes within the trust and multi-agency partnerships including input into inspection processes, data collection and performance reports.
To provide guidance and support to all staff on MCA and DoLS.
To provide guidance, training and advice on MAPPA, MARAC and PREVENT.
To comply with the trusts vision, values and behavioural compact.

Experience
Essential
- Experience of working with adults, children and families
- Experience working at Band 6 level
- Significant experience working in the area of safeguarding and multi-agency work or transferable experience
- Excellent organisational, planning and communications skills
- Specialist knowledge of safeguarding acquired through experience
- Up to date high level of knowledge in all aspects of safeguarding children and adults, including legislation, research, current trends, development and major issues
- Evidence of teaching on safeguarding issues
- Evidence of change management / innovation in practice
- Continuous professional development
- Knowledge and skills of quality improvement and continuous methodologies relating to Lean Working and Risk Management
- Develop own and others knowledge and practice in relation to safeguarding issues and provides training to staff within South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.
- Ability to manage own workload in line with broad organisational objectives, guided by policies and procedures
- Able to use electronic record systems and databases.
- Experience of Think family working
Desirable

Qualifications
Essential
- Current NMC registration (Level 1 adult nurse, children, mental health, Learning Disability)
- Degree in nursing studies or healthcare related subject or evidence of currently working towards this (UK equivalent).
- Evidence of further study in safeguarding adults
- Mentor certificate/Practice Assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience.
