The NIHR Imperial Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Hammersmith Hospital is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Research Involvement, Engagement and Inclusion Manager to lead on patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE), and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
This is an exciting opportunity to shape how clinical research is experienced and delivered, ensuring it reflects and serves the diverse communities we work with and establishing new relationships. You’ll work closely with CRF staff, researchers, patients, and partners across Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Imperial College London, and the wider National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) infrastructure.
You will hold a post graduate qualification in a relevant discipline and have experience of developing and delivering inclusive involvement and engagement strategies in healthcare and/or clinical research. You will demonstrate a proven ability to independently establish and deliver engagement events within community settings, acting as the lead organiser and coordinating all aspects of planning, promotion, delivery and follow-up.

Main duties of the job
- Work closely with PERC to deliver the overall NIHR Imperial PPIE Strategy.Develop and implement strategies and action plans for PPIE and RI aligned with NIHR and Trust priorities.
- Advise the CRF senior Management Team on best practices, compliance, and innovation across both domains.
- Facilitate meaningful involvement of patients and the public in research design, delivery, and dissemination.
- Organise engagement events and outreach activities to connect with diverse communities.
- Develop and deliver PPIE policies and procedures.
- Deliver and/or signpost staff and researcher training.
- Support researchers in integrating PPIE into funding applications and study protocols.
- Develop accessible materials to communicate research findings and opportunities for involvement.
- Manage the PPIE budget.
- Embed EDI principles across CRF operations, including recruitment, training, and research delivery.
- Deliver and/or signpost staff training and support inclusive workforce development.
- Devise strategies to ensure all necessary data is collected and managed efficiently and in compliance with GDPR.
- Monitor and report on EDI progress using relevant data and frameworks.
- Contribute to development of ICRF policies and procedures and ensure they reflect current EDI legislation and guidance.
- Identify CRF RI, PPIE and research achievements that can be developed into news and/or impact stories.
- Update CRF digital platforms including the CRF website and social media channels with EDI and PPIE content.

- Experience developing and delivering inclusive engagement strategies in healthcare, research, or community settings.
- Experience embedding EDI/RI principles into organisational culture, and/ or research practice.
- Experience working with diverse communities and patient/public contributors.
Desirable
- Experience in a clinical research, NHS, or academic environment.
- Experience supporting inclusive research design and public involvement
Education/ Qualifications
Essential
- Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline
Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities
Essential
- Strong understanding of EDI/RI frameworks, legislation, and best practice.
- Knowledge of inclusive engagement methodologies and NIHR PPIE standards.
- Awareness of barriers to participation in research and strategies to address them
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects collaboratively.
- Skilled in producing accessible and inclusive content.
- Skills in data analysis and reporting for evaluating engagement and inclusion impact
Desirable
- Familiarity with NHS and NIHR structures, values, and branding standards.
- Understanding of clinical research processes and governance
