To provide a dedicated comprehensive Tier 3/4 service to people experiencing substance use problems. ICON aims to bridge the gap between substance misuse and mental health services. Recognising that for our cohort of service user co-occurring needs are the norm not the exception. Through this project we aim to reduce barriers to access treatment, duplication, and fragmentation.

Main duties of the job

  • Provision of drug & alcohol treatment to Service Users within the locality.
  • Holding a caseload of service users and being responsible for offering a range of interventions to those individuals.
  • Supporting service users through their treatment journey from beginning to end
  • Embracing the concept of recovery and demonstrating this in your clinical work
  • Ensuring that your work is evidence based, up to date and in accordance with current policy and legislation.
  • Keeping up to date and accurate records and documentation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide harm reduction advice, information and support with an emphasis on safer drug use, safer sex, HIV, Hepatitis A,B and C and other blood borne infections 2. Offer Naloxone to all Clients due to risks presenting, or as a precautionary measure. 3. Provide Blood borne virus testing 4. Be responsible for maintaining a full case load of complex clients as the key worker. 5. To conduct outreach visits consistent with need. 6. To offer a flexible approach to work within a range of locations including STARs hubs, MPFT hubs and an outreach setting 7. To carry out comprehensive assessments, construct care packages with multi disciplinary colleagues where required, review care plans in a structured format and manage onward referral. 8. To assist and support medical and nurse prescribers during harm reduction and prescribing clinics.

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • Considerable experience of working with drug users
  • Experience of working with techniques such as CBT, Motivational interviewing, and Solution focused therapy
  • A commitment to and understanding of harm reduction & recovery approaches to working with drug users.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Foundation Degree / HNC in related field which may include counselling, social work, nursing, psychology, human resources, social studies or equivalent experience

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals.
  • Ability to work with drug/alcohol users in a community environment
