Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Team in the SETT Centre. The SETT Centre was established as part of UHS R&D Department in 2021. Now in its 6th year, SETT continues to focussed on building capacity and capability in Emerging Therapies, MedTech and Data & AI to translate cutting edge research and innovation into clinical care and improved patient outcomes. We are looking for a highly motivated research and project manager to join us in the SETT Centre. You will work across all three workstreams and play a key role in supporting and project managing the activity pipeline from expression of interest through to delivery. You will lead ad hoc projects as required building relationships with clinical, academic and industry stakeholders
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Work with the SETT Centre to realise the ambition of SETT expanding the growth of research in Advanced Therapies, Medical Technology and Data & AI with a translatable impact on improving patient care
- You will have a good understanding of each workstream of SETT enabling wider clinical, academic and industry stakeholder relationships
- Act as a specialist within SETT/R&D team for researchers, guiding them to the appropriate resources and support at the appropriate time to set-up supporting the delivery of both commercial and non-commercial research
- You will provide specialised and complex study oversight and project management, identifying and managing any opportunities and challenges and reporting to senior management as required
- Interface with R&D to support timely set-up, including robust feasibility of clinical research studies, ensuring that studies can be delivered within the nationally agreed benchmarks for initiation and delivery.
- Work autonomously to lead and deliver projects, deputise for the SETT/R&D Project managers as requested and provide cross cover

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential
- Educated to master’s level or equivalent experience relevant to the role
- Evidence of on-going professional development relevant to the role
- Evidence of current and ongoing Good Clinical Practice (ICH/GCP) training
- Experience in research management
- Significant clinical research experience in a health or relevant commercial sector
- Extensive experience in database management and development
- Extensive knowledge and laboratory expertise in management and storage of biological materials
- Experience in managing teams
- Detailed knowledge of the changes in funding and research management within the NHS and in particular relating to the CRN and NIHR portfolio
- Extensive knowledge of current clinical trials regulations and guidelines, including the Human Tissue Act and biobanking ethics and governance
- Awareness of current national systems and structures for the approval, management and monitoring of clinical research
- Experienced in reviewing paperwork relating to research to extract information required for a specific purpose
- Understanding of accountability R&D issues in the NHS
- Experience working in a large teaching hospital or University
