We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quality Lead to join our team and support the continued development of our Community Diagnostic Service. This role will play a key part in strengthening governance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance across the sleep pathway, imaging, and physiological sciences.

Are you an experienced quality professional with a background in healthcare governance, accreditation, or clinical quality systems? We are looking to recruit into a Quality Lead position to drive forward quality improvement and compliance across our services.

For this role, you will need to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, demonstrate strong leadership in quality management, and be adaptable to the evolving needs of diagnostic services.

Main duties of the job

The Quality Lead will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of a robust Quality Management System across the Community Diagnostic Centre, Imaging, and Physiological Sciences services, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory and accreditation standards to support safe and effective patient care.

A key aspect of the role will involve promoting quality assurance principles and embedding these into routine clinical practice. The post holder will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality standards are consistently understood, applied, and sustained across all services.

The Quality Lead will also lead and deliver quality improvement initiatives, ensuring services evolve in line with regulatory requirements, audit outcomes, and best practice. This includes managing projects focused on compliance, service development, and patient experience.

In addition, the post holder will collaborate with the Training Officer and departmental Quality Leads to ensure staff receive appropriate training and maintain competencies required for regulatory compliance. This will include supporting staff development, monitoring training uptake, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards, and promptly escalating any concerns relating to quality, accreditation, or compliance to the Lead Sleep Physiologist, CDC Service Manager, Service Quality Leads, and relevant Service Managers as soon as they are identified

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key result areas:

Managerial/ People Management

  • Post holder could have direct line management responsibility for lower band staff whose roles are to support accreditation and maintainance of the QMS across all of the services.
  • Leads the departments’ response to complete compliance tasks to relevant standard and regulatory requirements. This requires the ability to appraise multiple options / approaches to identify the best way forward to support service compliance.
  • The post presents competeing QMS and accreditation priorities which are complex in nature and the post holder must have logical approach to review to produce a priority list of the competing tasks.
  • Post holder will provide QMS and accreditation specialist knowledge to the services and directs services at the time of assessment to ensure they are prepared for the visiting assessors.
  • This post holder will continually review and adjust as necessary, processes and procedures across the services to meet compliance to regulations and standards.
  • The post holder will lead the service’s Annual Management Review meeting and produce a QMS status report for the service for the year ended at the meeting.
  • Responsible for the management of progress of outstanding actions, formulate and coordinates effective Corrective Action Preventive Action (CAPA) responses.  The post holder may adjust responses as required on review.
  • The post holder will lead on the delivery of specific projects pertaining to the development and embedding of an effective QMS and quality culture.
  • They will be responsible for the production and maintenance of relevant policies which governs the QMS, such as a regulatory standard compliant document control policy.
  • Responsible for the monitor of the effectiveness of the QMS across the services and formulating appropriate responses to excursion/breach.  This will involve providing and receiving highly complex or contentious data (i.e.audit, workload, establishment review data) to service’s management team or individual as appropriate.
  • Leads the monthly Quality Management Review Meetings (QMR). This includes responsibility for its planning and production of associated reports.
  • Escalates any concerns regarding quality, accreditation and compliance to the Lead Sleep Physiologist and Service Manager, CDC Service Manager, Service Quality Leads and relevant Service Managers as soon as they come to light.
  • The job requires standard keyboard use to record own information. Also, there is frequent requirement of prolonged periods of concentration to complete tasks such as analysing and interpreting complex data/information i.e. statistical data and audit non-conformances

Leadership

  • Post holder will provide specialist knowledge leadership on QMS and related quality matters and accreditation for the CDC and relevant services.
  • Post holder will lead promotion of the QMS and implementation in the department via staff engagement and motivation.
  • Post holder will be skilled to lead, motivate and promote the embedding of the continuous improvement principles across the services.
  • Post holder will be the first point of contact for compliance matter, so they must be an approachable and supportive character. This extends to incidental contact with patients and visitors.
  • Post holder must possess good time management skills and focus to be able to deliver on tasks to deadline

Clinical/ Clinical Governance

  • Work with the CDC Clinical Lead and other colleagues within the services to promote and ensure high standards of professional and clinical practice, reflecting national and professional body guidance and through the use of the audit programme.
  • Undertake responsibility for formulating and writing of departmental audit schedule and its regular review and adjustment to ensure it’s adequate for the QMS effectiveness.
  • Leads on engagement with the clinical and non-clinical audits as per the service QMS and Trust schedule. Post holder will actively monitor service compliance with the audit schedule and perform some audits if required. Audit requires light physical effort composed of sitting, standing and walking, so post holder must be able to engage as required
  • Present and review complex audit data to service management teams which may be of a highly contentious nature.

Education and Training

  • Post holder will regularly review training programmes and adjust as approprioate to ensure they remain fit for purpose across all grades.
  • Ensures that all staff have the appropriate training support for their scope of practice and to meet quality and compliance needs.  This will include training on audit, QMS and continuous improvement principles.
  • Engages with the local induction process to ensure inclusion of awareness of QMS and compliance by staff.
  • Be up to date on national developments & guidelines in services, quality and compliance, providing guidance to staff on implementation as necessary. This may require attending professional meeting/forums internally and or externally.
  • Post holder is responsible for coordination and / or delivery of quality and compliance training to staff, and ensure on-going refresher training programme is in place.
  • Reports concerns over training in quality, compliance and general training completion to the service management team.
  • Ensures staff training and competency record / matrix is monitored and up to date and flag up issues to the service management team.
  • Attend job related education, training and study days as required.

Professional

  • Leads and contributes to service improvement initiatives across the services
  • Lead, promote and embed good continuous improvement principles across the services.
  • Post holder will support and participate as required in research and development activity

  • Participate in the Trust’s annual appraisal system designed to identify objectives and personal development opportunities.
