An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Band 7 to join our Acute Admissions Unit (AAU) in the capacity of Practice Development Nurse. The role of the Practice Development Nurse is to be an expert practitioner who will lead by example and who can provide leadership and organisation to the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will ensure that quality indicators are achieved and where necessary ensure effective and continuous evaluation and action taken where appropriate.

The post holder must be able to make informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards and targets are met. The team has a strong multidisciplinary focus within the service, and the successful candidate will need to be able to work inter-professionally and link closely with the team to achieve the best possible outcomes for the client group.

There will be an expectation that the post holder will provide cross cover within the Older Peoples Service when the need arises.

Main duties of the job

The Practice Development Nurse (PDN) for Acute Medicine is responsible for driving excellence in clinical practice, education, and workforce development across the Acute Admissions Unit.

You will lead initiatives that promote evidence-based care, professional growth, and a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that nursing practice aligns with NHSE, CQC, NMC and supporting learning within Acute Medicine. You will work collaboratively with clinical leaders, matrons, educators, and the multidisciplinary team. You will design, deliver, and evaluate education programmes that enhance knowledge, skills, and confidence amongst staff.

You will act as a visible clinical leader and role model, fostering compassionate, patient-centred care, and embedding a culture of learning and accountability that supports both staff wellbeing and excellent patient outcomes.
