Job overview

Provide outstanding care to maintain and further improve patient outcomes for those referred for trauma management to the plastic surgery department. To coordinate theatre lists to ensure efficient use of operating availability and communicate across all departments involved in the management of this patient group. To support in the review of trauma patients and associated clinical workload.

Main duties of the job

  • Coordination of the plastic surgery trauma theatre allocation and liaison with patients regarding plans for surgery, tests and rehabilitation. This may include arranging pre-operative tests and admission from outpatient areas.
  • Liaison with management team to secure operative slots.
  • Close communication with Plastic Surgery Consultants and registrars to ensure allocation of patients to theatre slots matches the surgeon undertaking the list.
  • Support the wider team, including on call, and the ward team when required assisting.

  • Responsible for the coordination of the plastic surgery trauma services.
  • Attend the ward round and support on call trauma registrar in directing patient reviews and actioning patient related requests from the Consultant of the Week.
  • Lead and co-ordinate surgery dates for trauma patients with discussion from plastic surgery consultants, taking clinical needs and surgeon experience into account.
  • Arrange any pre-op investigations as necessary.
  • Assist in audits and data collection to contribute to service development and improved patient outcomes.
  • Maintain close liaison with patients and their carers/families.
  • Work clinically as required, assessing, treating and managing patients on the wards, in the Hand Trauma Clinic, Urgent Treatment Centre, Nye Bevan Unit, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and/or ED.
  • Support the wider team, including on call, and the ward team when required assisting with relevant tasks including TRIPS registration.
