An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our Paediatric Critical Care team as a Team Leader providing line management for staff alongside clinical and unit development responsibilities.

The post holders will be required to work as a member of Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) nursing team, providing a high standard of clinical care and support to children and young people within the Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU).

A mix of PCC Unit/ Retrieval/ Outreach clinical duties may be facilitated dependent upon the post holder's experience/completion of relevant competencies.

Main duties of the job

Job Summary

  • To effectively support the Deputy Matron to manage PCCU.
  • To provide clinical and managerial leadership, maintaining good working relationships, compatible with an efficient and effective running of the service.
  • To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team, communicating effectively with all levels of medical and nursing staff.
  • To uphold the Units Nursing Philosophy of Care.
  • To promote and develop PCCU Nursing on a local, national, and international level.
  • To act as a professional and experienced PCCU Nurse.
  • To work alongside the practice development team to ensure that PCCU’s educational requirements are met.
  • To support the Oxford Team Leads in the service delivery of Southampton and Oxford Retrieval Team (SORT).
  • To support the PCCU Outreach Lead in service delivery.

Experience

Essential

  • Current experience as a Band 6 within a Critical Care environment.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the need for high standards of individualised Critical care/family centred care.
  • Demonstrates awareness of the qualities required of a sister/charge nurse working in intensive care.
  • Insight into managerial issues in relation to people and resources.
  • Evidence of developing an aspect of Paediatric Critical Care nursing practice.

Desirable

  • Demonstrates knowledge of value & use of research findings.
  • Evidence of local/national representation.
  • Experience of team management.
  • Evidence of managing change from a personal and leadership level.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Educated to a degree level.
  • Recognised qualification in Paediatric Intensive Care
  • APLS/EPLS certification
  • Teaching and assessing qualification/ mentorship course or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Working towards MSc level education.
  • APLS/EPLS instructor status
  • Leadership module

  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates the potential for leadership.
