An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic and friendly administration clerk to join our Community Midwife Administration Team. Bradford maternity service is a busy and dynamic service that supports the women of Bradford through the journey of pregnancy and birth. We are a busy and acute division with many challenges, and we need the support of our multidisciplinary workforce to enable a high standard of care to be provided.

Due to current Home Office Guidelines, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is unable to provide sponsorship for this role.

This post is based at St Luke's Hospital in Bradford and requires the successful applicant to be able to work 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) 08.00 - 16.00, inclusive of a 30 minute break.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist colleagues with workload, providing administrative support relating to the Consultants, Midwives, Nursing staff, and their teams, including, filing, faxing, photocopying, opening and distributing mail, booking case notes in and out as appropriate, clinic preparation
  • Effectively communicate with patients, visitors and staff face to face and over the telephone.
  • To input clinical/administrative data such as referrals, booking outpatient appointments, and uploading external communications to PAS.
  • To ensure that case notes are kept up to date and that all investigations and other material (outside notes and films) are available for clinic appointments/admissions and that letters/results are filed in the appropriate place in the case notes.
  • Maintain efficient office systems and liaise with medical records and other departments/hospitals to locate patient case notes on behalf of the consultant or wards.
  • To effectively and efficiently administer and maintain all relevant IT systems. The systems could include PAS (Patient Administration System, and/or other local systems – IT systems that records essential clinical and personal information about patients) Word, Internet and email.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Good administration experience, NHS experience is desirable but not essential as training will be given.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritise the demands of a fast paced environment, ensuring tight deadlines are met.
  • Work autonomously, and be able to prioritise and work well within a team
  • Be able to communicate effectively with members of the public over the phone.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
