
Job summary
This is a fixed-term Band 4 RTT Validation and PIFU Support Officer role within Thoracic Services until 31st March 2027. The primary focus of the role is the validation and management of RTT and DM01 patient pathways, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with national access standards.
Post holder responsible for analysing and interpreting patient pathway information, proactively tracking pathways, identifying delays, risks and data quality issues, and taking appropriate action to resolve or escalate these in line with national guidance. A good working knowledge of RTT and/or DM01 rules and validation processes is essential.
The post holder will work independently to prioritise workload and support delivery of access targets, while working collaboratively with clinical and operational teams to ensure patients progress through their pathways safely and in a timely manner.
In addition, the post holder will provide administrative support to Patient Initiated Follow-Up (PIFU) processes, representing approximately 10% of the role, ensuring patients are accurately recorded, monitored and able to access services when required.
The role requires proactive tracking of patient pathways across diagnostic and treatment stages. The post holder will identify delays, risks and potential breaches, prioritising pathways based on urgency and impact, and taking appropriate action to resolve issues or escalate concerns to clinical and operational teams.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the comprehensive validation and management of RTT and DM01 patient pathways in line with national standards and Trust policies. This will include analysing and interpreting patient pathway information to determine the correct RTT status, including clock starts, stops and pathway outcomes, and ensuring all data recorded on Trust systems is accurate and up to date.
The post holder will investigate discrepancies, interpret information from multiple sources, and ensure patient records accurately reflect the care pathway in accordance with RTT and DM01 rules.
The post holder will be expected to maintain a high level of concentration when reviewing complex patient data and will handle sensitive information in line with confidentiality and information governance requirements. They will communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including responding to queries from patients and staff, sometimes requiring explanation of delays or pathway issues in a clear and sensitive manner.
In addition, the post holder will provide administrative support to Patient Initiated Follow-Up (PIFU) pathways (approximately 10% of the role). This will include maintaining accurate patient records, monitoring system dashboards and alerts, managing queries, and assisting with patient-initiated contact and appointment requests. The post holder will also support the review of patients approaching pathway expiry and highlight concerns to clinical teams.

- Significant administrative experience within an NHS setting
- Experience of validating and managing patient pathways
- Working knowledge of RTT and/or DM01 standards and validation rules
- Experience using Patient Administration Systems (e.g. Lorenzo, Cerner)
- Experience working with data, including identifying and resolving data quality issues
- Experience of working with multiple stakeholders to resolve issues
Desirable
- Experience of DM01 validation

Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to Level 4 standard (e.g. NVQ Level 4 in Business Administration or equivalent experience)

- Evidence of IT literacy including Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel)
Desirable
- A-levels or equivalent qualification

- Evidence of continuing professional development
