An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Nursing Education and Professional Development Team at the Royal London Children’s Hospital

You will be a clinically credible nurse experienced in paediatric nursing, who is able to utilise clinical expertise and specialist knowledge to support the development of Registered Children’s Nurses, Health Care Assistants and the wider nursing team, ensuring the delivery of safe, high quality, evidence-based care.

An assessing and mentoring qualification is essential, and a formal teaching, research or project management background is desirable, along with significant experience in acute paediatric care at Band 6 or above.

You will have proven leadership and role-modelling skills, and will be able to demonstrate effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team and confidence in leading change - a vital component of this role.

Main duties of the job

The Paediatric Professional Development Nurse creates a supportive environment where staff feel encouraged to learn and grow. The post holder leads the ongoing development of competency-based frameworks for Registered Children’s Nurses, Health Care Assistants, play specialists and support staff, and provides continuing support to all bands of clinical staff in delivering safe, compassionate nursing care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Through coaching, supervision and hands-on clinical practice, the post holder helps ward teams assess, develop, implement and evaluate standards of care, and supports student nurses, mandatory training and professional development across the department.
