Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for the daily operations of the maternity ultrasound department, managing workload, workflow and staff to deliver a professional, high quality, responsive and effective service at all times.  They will take responsibility for; budget holding, recruitment, appraisal, KPI performance and all other HR responsibilities related to running the department.

In conjunction with the Lead Consultant the post holder will; maintain statistics, contribute to activity reports, review and revise scanning techniques, implement protocols and be responsible for practice to improve the service.

The post holder will:

  • be accessible and visible to staff, patients and visitors
  • manage the delegated budget by monitoring the use of resources (pay and non-pay), investigate areas of overspend and take prompt action to ensure that the highest standards are delivered within the resources available to the department
  • contribute to the Midwifery Leadership Team On Call Rota, which provides 24 hour cover for the maternity services across all maternity areas within Oxford University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust site
  • participate in the Day-to-Day Operational Manager shifts (Bleep holding)
  • work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team across wider maternity services, Directorate and Division.

  • Management experience in senior role

  • Clinical expert in maternity ultrasound
  • Experience of report writing

  • Experience of ward or department budget management and financial issues

Qualifications and Education

  • Registered Midwife or Sonographer
  • Education to a degree level
