Job overview

An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for an experienced midwife to undertake the role of Maternity Coordinator and Bleep Holder. This post is 34.5 hours per week, consisting of 3 x 11.5-hour shifts, working a combination of days and nights until 21st March 2027.

You must have previously completed the Labour Ward Coordinator Development Pack to undertake the full coordinator role. Candidates who have not completed the development pack will be restricted to bleep-holding duties only until this requirement has been met.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and organised midwife to develop leadership and operational management skills while supporting the safe delivery of high-quality maternity care.

Main duties of the job

  • Working collaboratively with Ward Leads, Senior Midwifery Leads and the Obstetric team to ensure safe and effective patient flow across Maternity Services.
  • Holding the maternity bleep and responding to internal, external and emergency calls.
  • Leading the daily morning safety huddle and the cross-site Consultant safety huddle.
  • Coordinating admissions for Induction of Labour (IOL).
  • Ensuring daily staffing sheets are accurate and HealthRoster is updated.
  • Completing Return to Work discussions following sickness absence, undertaking staff appraisals, and supporting Datix investigations.

Experience

Essential

  • Proven clinical experience as a band 6 midwife
  • Experience of implementing change in service provision
  • Experience of managing employee relations issues
  • Experience of guideline development and review
  • Experience of participation in clinical audit
  • Knowledge and experience of risk management including experience in incident investigations

Desirable

  • Completion of the Labour Ward Coordinator Package
  • Experience at Bleep Holding

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife
  • Degree / Diploma in Midwifery and evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • SSSA Practice Assessor/ Mentorship qualification
  • NIPE qualification

Desirable

  • PSIRF trained
  • Managerial Training Courses
  • Prompt Trainer/NLS trainer
