Macmillan Cancer Information Centre Lead – Band 7
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to lead the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre at Leighton Hospital, Crewe.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high-quality, accessible information and support service for patients with cancer, their carers, families, and all those affected by cancer. This will include facilitating access to accurate, up-to-date information and delivering compassionate, person-centred support in line with Macmillan Cancer Support principles.
The successful candidate will work proactively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, developing effective links with local and national information and support providers to ensure an integrated and responsive service.
The role will also contribute to the strategic development of cancer services within the organisation, supporting service improvement initiatives and projects aimed at enhancing patient experience and improving clinical outcomes.
You will have day-to-day operational responsibility for the management of the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre, ensuring the service is delivered efficiently and meets the needs of service users.
Main duties of the job
- · To manage, supervise and develop a band 5 Macmillan Information and Support Service Deputy Manager.
- · To recruit, manage, supervise and develop volunteers/trainees to support the Macmillan Information and Support Counselling service.
- · To manage, supervise and apply for funding for the Hypnotherapy service provision to support patient’s psychological needs.
- · To manage, supervise and develop volunteers working in the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre, ensuring adherence to the standards of good practice outlined by the trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.
- · To ensure the use of up to date, high quality information that is relevant and consistent with current best practice in cancer care and treatment.
- · To identify new initiatives to enhance service provision, ensuring standards are maintained or improved.
- · To maintain effective communication networks and working relationships with other healthcare professionals to ensure that the services provided in the Cancer Information and Support Centre is integrated with, and complementary to, those of the Trust.
- · To work in collaboration with other information services personnel and with the Cancer Alliance and the Christie’s at Leighton.
- · To participate in research, audit and service review, in order to monitor and maintain standards of care.

OPERATIONAL
To receive and answer direct queries about all aspects of health, social, practical and psychological care required by those affected by cancer and the ‘worried well’ (face-to-face, written, telephone and e-mail and video), and signpost and liaise with other staff, seeking advice and referring on as appropriate, in line with operational policies for the Trust
