  • An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic nurse to join our team of Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists within the Head and Neck cancer pathway.
  • St George’s is a tertiary referral centre for Head and Neck surgery and provide surgical interventions for patients fromacross the South West London.
  • As a pivotal member of the team you will be passionate about the delivery of a high quality, safe and effective care to St George’s cohort of Head and Neck Cancer patients.
  • You will meet patients pre-diagnosis and act as a key worker for them throughout their cancer pathway.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide care for patients with suspected and newly diagnosed Head and Neck cancer patients and their families with particular emphasis on counselling and emotional support, ensuring easy access to telephone support.
  • To know when to refer on to other professionals for more specialist guidance, support, advice, and counselling.
  • To Support the Trust in achieving compliance with Direct to Test, Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) and Referral to Treatment waiting time targets with participation in head and Neck Telephone Assessment Clinic (TAC).
  • Leading on patient and carer communication issues and co-ordination of the patient pathway for patients referred to the team.
  • Provides guidance, support, advice and counselling to patients and their family / carers along the patient pathway.
  • Acting as the key worker or responsible for nominating the key worker for the patients dealing with the team.
