Job summary
The post holder will be responsible for leading an efficient and effective team in the delivery of pain management, whilst being responsible for ensuring departmental management
The Lead Nurse is accountable for the high standard of nursing practice and the quality of patient care delivered by the pain team.
The Lead nurse will support the Matron in the development of the pain service using quality improvement, innovation and evidence based practice.
Main duties of the job
The post holder provides a high level of clinical, managerial skills and professional knowledge to the nursing teams within the remit of the role. Reporting to the Matron, they play a pivotal role in delivery of high quality care, and supporting service improvement and monitoring standards within pain management

Essential
- Senior Nurse with post registration experience in pain management / autonomous practice in similar role
- Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentorship
- Evidence of experience of taking charge of a team
- Evidence of resource and clinic management
- Ability to provide relevant advice to junior nurses and doctors on a variety of pain management and clinical issues
- Experience of research and audit
- Fully aware of principles of infection control
- Able to promote equality, diversity and rights
Desirable
- Previous experience of complaints
- Previous experience of budgetary management
Qualifications & Training
Essential
- Registered general nurse with current NMC registration
- Teaching and mentorship qualification
- Educated to degree level in health-related subject (or willingness to commence degree programme within 1 year in post) or be able to demonstrate equivalent level of experience &/or education, training & development
- Non medical prescriber (or willingness to complete within 1 year of post)
- Provide evidence of continuous professional development, documented within CPD portfolio
