Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Major Trauma, Plastics & Hands and Pain Services Clinical Service Unit at the Northern Care Alliance as a Band 7 Lead Manager.

As Lead Manager you will manage the day to day operational service requirements across selected services , operating effectively within the triumvirate structure. You will motivate, inspire and empower staff to deliver the highest quality of healthcare services to the local population.

You will take a proactive and responsive approach to overcoming issues and challenges to deliver continuous improvement and operational excellence and you will champion the voice of the patient in all elements of service management.

You may be required to work across Fairfield General Hospital, Royal Oldham Hospital, Salford Royal Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the operational delivery of the allocated service(s) , ensuring it remains responsive to patient needs and that delivery of exceptional patient services remains the core focus.
  • To provide day to day operational management to the departments within the respective service(s)to achieve the delivery of national, corporate and contractual performance targets within agreed budgets.
  • To manage day to day issues and challenges within selected services, solving problems and seeking resolutions, escalating to direct line manager accordingly.
  • To work collaboratively with the triumvirate of Clinical Leads and Matrons to own the performance of the service and take appropriate actions to deliver outstanding patient centred care and work towards the achievement of operational excellence.
  • To manage the effective utilisation of resources and staff within statutory and NCA requirements.
  • To support the continuous improvement of the respective services, in line with the agreed Clinical Group /NCA strategies, for the collective benefits of patients across the organisation.
  • To adhere to Clinical Group/NCA policies, processes and ways of working to contribute to the achievement of the Clinical Group/NCA performance and long term strategy.
  • To deputise for the Operational / Service Manager as required.

Qualifications

Essential

  • In depth professional knowledge across a number of disciplines acquired through degree or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Specialist knowledge acquired through postgraduate qualifications to masters level or relevant equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Higher degree level or equivalent.

  • Good interpersonal and people skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively in dialogue with individuals at all levels.
  • Ability to empower, coach and support staff.
  • Evidence of good influencing and negotiating skills.

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of operational experience as defined within the job specification, in an NHS, or broader public/ private/ sector setting.
  • Understanding of the NHS, its infrastructure and partner healthcare organisations.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of activity management (including waiting lists.)
