To provide specialist advice in support of the Competent Person in accordance with the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, to ensure the Trust complies with all statutory legislation and NHS requirements. To monitor that actions resulting from audits, inspections and reviews are effectively implemented. To support the achievement of regulatory and NHS requirements on risk management and the effectiveness of the risk management system throughout the Trust. To be a key member of the Health and Safety Team in interpreting national guidelines, industry best practice and current Legislation and advising managers and staff on the management of health and safety risks. To devise and deliver as required relevant training in areas of health, safety and risk to meet statutory obligations for the protection of the staff, patients, visitors and the Trust as an entity.
Main duties of the job
- To interpret national guidelines relating them to specialities across the Trust and provide policy, guidance and advice on health and safety issues.
- To take the lead on day to day health and safety advice and support to all areas of the Trust as necessary.
- To advise and influence management and employees on health and safety matters in accordance with all health and safety regulations, design and deliver systems which adequately control risk and monitor successful implementation of all relevant health and safety legislation and Trust policy.
- To be responsible for the formulation, review and implementation of health and safety policies.
- To assist the Head of Health and Safety to liaise with external agencies such as the Health and Safety Executive and other enforcing authorities in relation to health and safety matters including notification of all accidents/incidents/dangerous occurrences, (in accordance with RIDDOR) and following investigation/liaison with appropriate staff.
- Regularly research and write reports for Health and Safety Committee etc raising issues of concern which may be highly contentious, making recommendations and proposing solutions requiring resources.
- Identify training needs, devise and develop Health and Safety training courses and presentations using a variety of training techniques and regularly deliver training to large numbers, groups and individuals of all grades and specialities.
