The Projects and Estates Department plays an instrumental role within the Trust by managing critical infrastructure, maintenance, and projects across its entire estate which directly impacts on frontline clinical care, cutting edge global research, infection prevention and control and energy efficiency. We have a position within our Estates Department, which provides excellent opportunities to drive improvements in our buildings and infrastructure and manage the delivery of Estates services. Main duties of the job
- Responsible for the operational management of engineering infrastructure and services across the entire London Estate,
- Has overall responsibility for ensuring that engineering maintenance, including contract work, is carried out to appropriate standards and specifications compliant with Trust policies and clinical needs
- Provides expert specialist and professional engineering expertise to other estates staff, directors, senior management of the organisation; may advise external agencies
- Undertakes Authorised Person responsibilities in relation to specified engineering plant, building services /elements and systems / infrastructure and manages safe systems.
- Providing high level professional engineering leadership and technical management, oversight, strategic direction and operational advice ensuring the optimum delivery of engineering services, projects /works and maintenance

- To be an authority on engineering, operations and maintenance within the department, be a key member of the Projects and Estates Department strategic team. Use excellent concise communication skills to brief senior managers within the department as well as Trust management executive when required. Work to raise the profile and professionalism of the Department and protect it from risks through the role performed and, in all communications, and behaviour.
- To exchange maintenance, technical project-related information with senior managers and directors and negotiate with contractors and suppliers.There is a need for excellent communication skills which will assist the department in gaining the cooperation of others and maintain good relations. Such as using skill and knowledge to discuss, negotiate and agree changes to estates operational delivery or plant /equipment as a result of new /changing infection control requirements. This will include encouraging estates staff to use new equipment or new work practises.
- Develop and manage documentation systems including policies, statutory and mandatory records procedures, registers, logbooks and maintenance records.Responsible for the maintenance and modification of Fire Alarm and Detection Systems ensuring compliance with HTM 05 and Fire code. The existing BMS system is linked to the Energy Management System leading to a complex ‘Environmental Control’ system. Therefore, the frequent monitoring and diagnoses of problems and faults on the sophisticated systems and relevant equipment is required and the need to formulate solutions and recommendations.Responsible as ‘Authorised Person’ for LV and Medical Gas Pipeline Systems as defined in HTM’s guidance. Provide professional/technical advice and best practice guidance to trade staff for engineering systems and equipment
- The physical skills required for the post are varied. These skills would normally be obtained through practical trade training and experience in the use specialist tools, and equipment. Knowledge and the use of Computer systems are essential. The skills will need to be employed where needs dictate and during urgent and emergency situations
