Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Integrated Community Stroke Service (ICSS) as a Generic Rehabilitation Technician specialising in Digital Rehabilitation. In this rewarding role, you will support people recovering from stroke and other neurological conditions to maximise their recovery, independence and quality of life.

Working within a specialist multidisciplinary team, alongside Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Stroke Specialist Nurses and other healthcare professionals, you will deliver person-centred rehabilitation programmes tailored to individual needs and goals.

You will provide rehabilitation interventions both face-to-face and through digital platforms, enabling patients to access therapy in their own homes and communities. The role involves supporting therapy programmes, encouraging self-management, monitoring progress and helping patients achieve meaningful outcomes.

The post holder will work across community settings and may be required to provide countywide support.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will:

  • Deliver delegated rehabilitation programmes to patients following stroke or neurological conditions, both in person and through digital rehabilitation platforms.
  • Support patients to engage with digital technology and tele-rehabilitation services, including online therapy sessions and virtual rehabilitation groups.
  • Manage a delegated caseload, working independently within agreed treatment plans and professional guidelines.
  • Undertake assessment and treatment activities for a defined group of patients, reporting progress and concerns to qualified therapists.
  • Support patients to improve mobility, independence, communication, cognition and activities of daily living.
  • Educate and support patients, families and carers to understand rehabilitation goals and develop self-management strategies.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to contribute to rehabilitation planning, goal setting and ongoing review.
  • Monitor patient progress, identifying and escalating changes in condition or rehabilitation needs appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records and activity data using electronic patient record systems.
  • Participate in service development, quality improvement activities and the delivery of innovative digital rehabilitation approaches

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in an acute healthcare settingting
  • Experience of working with elderly, injured/disabled people
  • Experience of working as a Therapy or Nursing assistant/rehab technician

Desirable

  • Experience as a Technical Instructor/rehab Technician working in health or similar post
  • Evidence of recent study, e.g., Anatomy and Physiology ITEC, Access to Therapy course etc.
  • Experience of working in the NHS

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level lll or in BTEC national diploma appropriate area or equivalent relevant qualification such as or sports science / health related degree

Skills and knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate with patients with impaired communication abilities
  • Good computer skills

Desirable

  • Completion of Stroke Competencies
