The post holder will undertake the various requirements of the ‘Fire safety Advisor’ role as stated in HTM 05-01 including fire risk assessment, fire training and supporting capital projects. The post holder will be part of a wider team, reporting to the Group Deputy Director for Fire who will provide support and expertise as the ‘Senior Fire Safety Advisor’ as stated in HTM05-01. Ensure that the gesh Group fully complies with the requirements of Fire Code, and all statutory legislation and guidance.
Ensure the maximum safety of all persons entering gesh Group premises. Assist the gesh Group in discharging its statutory duties by the preparation and updating of procedures for dealing with- staff training, fire prevention, firefighting, evacuation, maintenance of equipment, upgrading and improvements of fire precautions. Provide advice to appropriate staff at all levels to ensure that all new construction and adaptation works comply fully with Fire Code.
Main duties of the job
- Provide fire safety expertise to managers, Estates teams and clinical departments.
- Lead fire risk assessments, ensure actions are prioritised and recorded, and maintain compliance with legislation.
- Liaise with regulators and senior leaders to ensure organisational compliance with fire safety law.
- Oversee fire response arrangements, including teams, drills and emergency plans.
- Manage fire safety budgets and contribute to financial planning.
- Support safe contractor management, including reviewing RAMS and issuing Hot Work Permits.
- Monitor fire safety systems, inspections, maintenance schedules and false alarm reduction.

Essential
- Highly developed and effective negotiating and influencing skills and ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships with professional and managerial disciplines
- Highly developed management skills and the ability to maximise resource utilisation
Experience
Essential
- Thorough knowledge of Fire Safety, Fire Risk Assessments, Fire Legislation and Codes of Practice and Fire Safety Training
- Experience of healthcare fire safety and knowledge of NHS guidance, Fire Code, HTM’s and HBNs
Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to Master’s degree level or equivalent professional qualification relating to Fire Safety
- Member/Graduate grade of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO) etc.
Desirable
- Corporate membership of professional organisation (such as the Institute of Fire Engineers (MIFireE)
