Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Digital team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust as an Automation Business Analyst. The role will support the identification, analysis and implementation of automation opportunities that improve efficiency, productivity and service delivery across People and Organisation services.

Working closely with clinical, corporate and Digital teams, you will understand business needs, analyse processes and translate requirements into clear specifications for automation solutions. You will act as a key link between operational services and Automation Developers, helping to ensure that solutions meet user needs and are delivered in line with Trust processes, information governance and clinical safety requirements.

The role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in automation, AI and digital business analysis while contributing to service improvement across the Trust. You will work within an Agile environment and receive training and support to develop the knowledge and skills required to contribute effectively to automation and transformation projects.

Main duties of the job

As an Automation Business Analyst, you will:

  • Work with clinical and corporate teams to identify, assess and prioritise opportunities for automation and AI.
  • Analyse and map current and future processes, identifying inefficiencies, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Elicit, analyse and document clear, testable business, functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Develop and present options appraisals, benefits cases and recommendations to stakeholders and decision-making forums.
  • Act as the link between operational services, Digital teams and Automation Developers, ensuring requirements are translated accurately into technical solutions.
  • Support Agile delivery through backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives, using tools such as Jira or ServiceNow.
  • Contribute to the safe and effective use of AI, considering ethical, information governance, clinical safety and data protection requirements.
  • Support testing and benefits realisation by defining acceptance criteria and measures of success.
  • Work with Clinical Safety colleagues to ensure relevant safety requirements are reflected in solution design and delivery.
  • Provide advice on business analysis, automation opportunities and good practice, while keeping up to date with developments in automation, AI and digital analysis.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose:

To support the identification, analysis, and implementation of automation opportunities that improve efficiency, productivity, and service delivery within People and Organisation services across the Trust. The postholder will work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs, translate these into clear requirements for automation projects, and support the delivery of solutions in line with agreed processes, information governance standards, and clinical safety requirements, working with Clinical Safety colleagues where required. The role includes full training and support to develop the knowledge and skills required to work as part of a team delivering automation and service improvement across People and Organisation services.

Key Duties:

Work with clinical and corporate teams across the Trust to identify, assess and prioritise opportunities for automation or the application of AI tools to improve productivity and service delivery.

Undertake detailed process analysis, mapping current (as is) and future (to be) states, identifying inefficiencies, risks and opportunities for improvement.

Elicit, analyse and document business, functional and non functional requirements, ensuring they are clear, testable and aligned to Trust strategy and governance.

Develop and present options appraisals, benefits cases and recommendations to stakeholders and decision making forums.

Act as a key interface between operational services, Digital teams and Automation Developers, ensuring requirements are accurately translated into technical solutions.

Support delivery using Agile methodologies, contributing to backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives, and using tools such as Jira or ServiceNow to manage requirements and work items.

Contribute to the safe and effective use of AI technologies, including awareness of ethical, information governance, clinical safety and data protection considerations.

Support testing and benefits realisation activities, including defining acceptance criteria and measures of success.

Work with Clinical Safety colleagues where required to ensure relevant safety requirements are understood and reflected within solution design and delivery.

Provide advice and guidance to colleagues on business analysis approaches, automation opportunities and good practice.

Keep up to date with developments in automation, AI and digital analysis techniques, sharing learning with the wider team.

Qualifications

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience

  • Business Analysis, Prince 2 or Agile certification

  • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information relating to service change, automation and AI to a wide range of technical and non technical stakeholders.

  • Facilitate workshops, interviews and meetings to gather requirements and build consensus.

Skills / Knowledge

  • Ability to analyse complex processes and influence stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills

  • Exposure to Power Apps, Power Automate, UiPath, Blue Prism or similar tools
  • Experience of Service Now and Agile delivery.
  • Experience of Agile working practices and tools such as Jira or ServiceNow is desirable.
