An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Digital Clinical Services Division for a Digital & Transformation Project Manager on a permanent contract basis.

We are looking for an organised, enthusiastic individuals who is self-motivated but also enjoys working in a team. In addition to project management skills they will need to be able to deliver change, lead through influence and rethink established practice.

The role of Digital & Transformation Project Manager requires proven experience of managing major digital/transformational change projects to a successful conclusion, including realising objectives and benefits delivery within the project deadline and costs.

Main duties of the job

The Digital & Transformation Project Manager will lead the delivery of strategic digital projects within the Digital Clinical Services Division, with a particular focus on initiatives such as the Single Point of Access , Sparc, and broader digital transformation programmes.

The post holder will be responsible for managing projects using the Trust’s programme management framework, ensuring delivery of defined outputs, outcomes, and benefits on time and within budget. This includes setting project objectives, defining scope and deliverables, managing risks and issues, and maintaining robust reporting and governance arrangements.

The role requires close collaboration with clinical, operational, and corporate teams to embed scalable digital solutions that improve patient experience, streamline processes, and support the Trust’s digital maturity roadmap.

The post will be based at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Old Street, but the post-holder may be required to work across other sites depending on project needs.

While initial priorities will include supporting delivery of the Single Point of Access and other digital clinical service initiatives, project assignments may evolve in line with organisational priorities and strategic direction.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Identify, initiate and co-ordinate appropriate project proposals to improve operational performance and improve clinical service delivery.

Ensure that project objectives, scope, deliverables, critical success factors and risks are clearly documented and agreed prior to project start.

Establish multidisciplinary project teams with appropriate operational, clinical and corporate team membership. Co-ordinate the input of stakeholders and service users to ensure that appropriate options are appraised and delivered.

Perform benefits analysis and baseline current system performance before each project starts and ensure there is a plan in place for handover to the operational and clinical leads.

Preparation and maintenance of all project documentation, including (but not limited to): project brief, project initiation document, appraisal options, risks, issues, decisions, lessons learned and actions logs, high level and detailed project plans, highlight reports, and contributions to divisional and Trust-wide governance groups.

Ensure all project documentation and reports are prepared and delivered as specified in the project communications plan and in line with agreed reporting schedules.

Set-up and lead project team meetings, involving stakeholders and project team members. Responsible for controlling, directing, planning and allocating work and motivating service users to get directly, or indirectly involved with the project and its development.

Manage the implementation costs and resources allocated to any projects you manage.

Co-ordinate the activity of project team members and contributors ensuring that tasks and work packages are completed satisfactorily and on schedule.

Regularly report on progress, monitoring progress against plan, delivery of the project objectives, and post project review including updating the lessons learned and decision logs.

Undertake any additional duties appropriate to the post, as may be required by the service and as delegated by the Divisional Manager.

Provide advice and guidance to staff and managers across the Trust in relation to change, act as an advocate and champion for digital transformation.

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with a number of operational, clinical and corporate management teams including developing good knowledge of the overall programme aims, objectives and initiatives so as to provide meaningful expert advice.

The post holder will be required to communicate and engage constructively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders on a range of highly complex, specialist and often contentious issues.

Person specification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Project management experience managing multiple complex projects within the NHS or a comparable large organisation, preferably in a service related environment.
  • Experience in delivering digital, administrative or IT programmes in a healthcare setting
  • Proven experience of managing major transformational change projects to a successful conclusion including realising objectives and benefits delivery within the project deadline and costs.
  • Working knowledge of a clinical operations environment and how to manage conflicting priorities to ensure projects are delivered.

Desirable

  • Experience of operational and non-operational management in the NHS

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Higher education qualification / masters in management (e.g. DMS), or relevant equivalent experience.
  • PRINCE2™ or AMP Practitioner / equivalent Project Management qualification.
