The post holder will be part of the Maternity Diabetes Specialist Service providing Diabetes Care and Management to pregnant women /people and their family.
This is a dynamic post that requires the post holder to work closely with multi-disciplinary team in addressing a range of care to women/people with Diabetes in pregnancy with special interest in Insulin Pump for Type 1 Diabetes and Gestational Diabetes, preventing unnecessary hospital admissions and improving the health and wellbeing of women and their babies.
Main duties of the job
- Be competent as appropriate to the requirements of the role of Diabetes Specialist Nurse. Demonstrate at all times the Trust Values. Be a Registered First Level Nurse with current NMC Registration and have a detailed professional and clinical knowledge. They will be a specialist practitioner and have a focus in Diabetes care with good knowledge of technological advances in Diabetes. Be responsible for a defined population of service users in a variety of settings across the Chelsea and Westminster Foundation Trust. (This role is based at West Middlesex Site , not cross site )

Be skilled in the assessment of complex/specialist care/support needs and in the development, implementation and evaluation of care/support packages.
Have supervisory, training and leadership responsibilities where appropriate and will have some responsibility for team performance and service developments/improvements.
Demonstrate initiative and be creative in finding solutions to problems.
- Work with the team leader undertaking delegated tasks in team management.

- Experience in mentoring students and in being a sign off mentor
- Experience and participation in research and audit and dissemination of findings

Education and Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse
- Nursing diploma/ 1st degree or degree in related subject/Demonstrable experience
- Evidence of Continuing professional development and education
- Post graduate studies in Diabetes care and management
- Willingness to undertake Non-medical prescribing
- Insulin PUMP K
Desirable
- Experience caring for women / people with diabetes or gestational diabetes
- Leadership/management qualification
- Accredited Diabetes module
