An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Deputy Unit Manager, with Endoscopy experience to join the Northumbria Endoscopy Service. The post holders will be required to work Trust wide, working flexibly over weekends and on call is a requirement of the service. Based at Hexham General Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Endoscopy Unit Managers, the individual will be responsible for day to day supervision of the Endoscopy Units; support to the Unit Managers; support the training for the Endoscopy team; provide Senior Nurse Site cover; provide advanced pre-assessment; provide and plan nursing care; and provide effective communication across the multi-disciplinary team.

In addition, a contribution to the attainment of JAG Accreditation and operational delivery of the key performance indicators within the Endoscopy Unit will be expected. The individual will be expected to undertake, in the absence of the Unit Manager, key operational management duties such as HR and day to day unit supervision.

The Endoscopy Deputy Manager will be expected to attend a number of key meetings, such as the Endoscopy User Group, Endoscopy Governance Group and the Senior Nurse Group.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To assume responsibility for the devolved management of a ward/department, including the assessment of care needs, the implementation of evidence based programme of care in the absence of the Ward Manager. To supervise, support and educate junior members of the team. To provide senior nurse site management cover. To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. To be responsibility for all nursing care standards and to maintain high clinical standards. To act as team leader and co-ordinate the multi-disciplinary care of a group of patients. To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

  • First level live NMC Registered Nurse or Registered Mental Nurse.
  • Mentorship Qualification or relevant equivalent qualification (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period)
  • PP126/127 or AC631 or D32/33 or A1 or equivalent

Desirable

  • Leadership Course
  • Management Course
  • Diploma or degree in nursing
  • Qualification in Specialty
