Deputy Ward Leader - Queens 3
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Deputy Ward Leader to join our dynamic team in the Queens 3 Ward at Croydon University Hospital.
The post holder will deputise for the Ward Leader, ensuring the effective running of the ward in his/her absence.
Working closely with the Ward Leader and Senior Nurses, the Deputy Ward Leader will be responsible for the delivery of professional nursing care, meeting patient needs in accordance with the standards agreed in the Performance Management Framework and the Nursing Strategy.
In addition, the post holder will also be responsible for providing clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff, facilitating practice development within the clinical area.

Main duties of the job
- Ensuring the care delivered to patients is a result of an individual assessment of their needs, using an appropriate assessment framework and actively seeking consent in the delivery of such care
- Collaborating with the Ward Manager and Senior Nurse, developing care pathways, clinical practice guidelines and protocols in line with National Service Frameworks, Department of Health guidance and the National Institute of Clinical Excellence to facilitate delivery of care which is best practice
- Actively encouraging application of Essence of Care (DOH 2001) benchmarks to daily practice and in the delivery of care to patients
- Demonstrating clinical expertise by regularly practicing alongside the nursing team, delivering hands on care, using highly developed physical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Encouraging creative, innovative practice which positively impacts on patient care.

- • Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration
- Evidence of professional development in the last 12 months
Previous Experience
Essential
- • Experience at Senior Nurse or in the relevant specialty environment of Trauma and orthopedic
- • Evidence of good practice/achievement
Knowlwdge Ability and Skills
Essential
- • Highly developed clinical skills • Undertake audit and support the monitoring of standards • Ability to work autonomously • Provide emotional support to patients/relatives. • Ability to teach and facilitate practice development • Coach and mentor junior staff in care skills • Customer Care Skills • Budgetary control skills • Demonstrate leadership and management skills • Basic IT skills
