An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Corporate Medical Business Support Manager (Band 7) within Velindre University NHS Trust.

This is a newly established role within the Corporate Medical Business Team, working closely with the Executive Medical Director and Executive Medical Business Manager to support the successful delivery of the Trust’s corporate medical business portfolio.

The postholder will provide high‑level strategic and operational support, contributing to the coordination of medical workforce activity, governance processes, portfolio management, and improvement programmes aligned to Trust and national priorities.

This post is Fixed Term/Secondment until 31/03/2027 due to the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

The Corporate Medical Business Support Manager will:

  • Provide senior-level business and operational support to the Executive Medical Director and Executive Medical Business Manager
  • Coordinate and manage the Trust’s corporate medical business portfolio, including delivery plans and portfolio refreshes
  • Lead and manage key medical workforce committees and strategic forums, including preparation of papers, briefings, presentations, minutes, and action tracking
  • Support the development of business cases, strategic plans, and improvement programmes
  • Undertake benchmarking, horizon scanning, analysis, and interpretation of complex information to support executive decision-making
  • Work closely with Divisions, corporate teams, and external stakeholders to support delivery of strategic objectives
  • Contribute to governance, reporting, and assurance processes, including preparation of high‑quality reports for senior committees and Trust Board
  • Support project management activity and delivery of agreed programmes of work
  • Provide line management and leadership for direct reports where applicable

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a supervisory / managerial role
  • Good track record of developing service strategies and plans and in successfully managing and delivering Programmes and Projects
  • Broad experience and evidence of working in partnership with stakeholders at all levels to deliver change and modernisation
  • Experience of working in complex and pressured environment with conflicting demands on time
  • Experience of dealing with confidential and sensitive data and appropriate maintenance and storage of records
  • Experience of preparing business plans/business cases considering finance, quality, activity, workforce, and organisational factors
  • Experience of writing reports for high-level committees and Trust Board
  • Experience of project implementation and monitoring ongoing projects
  • Experience of managing finance systems e.g. budget monitoring
  • Experience of managing, maintaining and developing systems and procedures
  • Experience of formal minutes taking
  • Working with multi-professional clinical staff groups

Desirable

  • Experience of line management or supervision of staff
  • Experience of supporting or contributing to medical workforce committees/groups
  • Working in an NHS environment.
  • Experience of monitoring performance indicators
  • Understanding of project management methodologies

  • Able to develop long-term complex workplan strategies and to plan and deliver Programmes
  • Strategic thinker with ability to have corporate overview. Ability to balance strategic and operational management
  • Advanced conceptual thinking, reasoning and numeracy and the ability to develop and compare a range of options based upon complex facts or situations
  • Able to organise multidisciplinary meetings and events, including minute-taking and action plan update and progression
  • Advanced communication, negotiation, persuasion and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy
  • Analyse information from numerous sources
  • Advanced IT/keyboard skills

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Recognised management qualification or educated to Masters level in a relevant subject e.g. Business Management, or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • PRINCE 2, or other recognised project management qualification
