An opportunity has arisen to join the Colorectal 2 week wait team cancer nurse specialists at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. Main duties of the job

Managing the two week pathway for patients with a newly diagnosed or suspected Colorectal cancer. Supporting patients and their families at the time of investigation and diagnosis and throughout their journey.

The role will include triaging with telephone or face to face in clinics to ensure faster diagnostics.

Providing specialist knowledge and support to other members of the wider team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Working in a senior nurse role as a cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist. Managing the pathway for patients with a newly diagnosed cancer. Supporting patients and their families at the time of diagnosis and throughout their journey. Managing the service and service development. Providing specialist knowledge and support to other members of the wider team.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trust’s policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Person specification

Education

Essential

  • Current NMC registration
  • Evidence of relevant courses appropriate to clinical area
  • Evidence of masters level study or willingness to work towards
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to work towards
  • Non-medical prescribing or willingness to work towards
  • Evidence of post registration education in cancer/tumour speciality or willingness to commence in 6 months

Desirable

  • Leadership / management qualification
  • Clinical examination skills level 7

Knowledge

Essential

  • In depth knowledge appropriate to speciality
  • Working knowledge of the current national NHS Cancer agenda

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience in a Band 6 role or above within cancer speciality
  • Experience of managing change
  • Experience of multi professional working
  • Experience of mentoring / supervising others 1

Desirable

  • previous experience at band 7 level

Communication

Essential

  • Advanced communication skills training or willingness to undertake
