The Clinical Site Manager has a pivotal role in the operational management of the acute trust, facilitating the sustained achievement of patient access standards including the national 4hour Trust target. The focus of the role is to manage demand and capacity via the emergency, elective and repatriation pathways.

The role is responsible for managing and allocating patient movement throughout the Trust ensuring patients are allocated to the right place at the right time, the first time. Working in close liaison with the patient flow coordinators the post holder will ensure the safe admission, transfer and discharge of patients between acute and community preventing unnecessary admissions and re-admissions. The Clinical Site Manager must have operational management skills in association with acute clinical skills. Post holders will work flexibly to meet the requirements of the Trust according to pressures as they arise and be responsible for initiating systems and processes that appropriately supports patient flow and the management of risk.

Main duties of the job

Within hours the post holder will be responsible for actively managing patient demand, dealing with unpredictable events non-clinical and clinical and working closely with the directorate teams including The Integrated Discharge Service. Other responsibilities will involve supporting staff across the site with clinical transfers and liaising with senior medical and nursing management when necessary.

The post holder when working on nights will work in collaboration with healthcare colleagues to provide clinical expertise for developing and enhancing the service and supporting staff across the organisation. They will ensure that evidence-based practice is inherent in all aspects of care and treatment and ensure this knowledge is disseminated throughout the clinical area.

The visible presence of post holders over a 24-hour period 7 days a week will be key in providing high standards of patient safety and care and supporting staff working across the organisation.

Develop and maintain communication within the multidisciplinary team internally and externally about complex and/or difficult situations and make complex decisions encouraging the effective participation of all involved. 3. To be empathetic and reassuring when communicating highly sensitive information to patients, carers and relatives. 4. To maintain comprehensive and accurate records regarding clinical and /or non-clinical assessment, and rationales for decisions made in line with legal and directorate requirements, and communicate responses to appropriate disciplines, directorates and management.
