An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated Registered Nurse to join the inpatient teams at the City & Hackney Centre for Mental Health as a Band 6 Clinical Practice Lead.

This is a key clinical leadership role, providing senior nursing presence, shift co-ordination and complex decision-making support within a busy inpatient environment. You will deputise for the Ward Manager, provide clinical supervision and professional guidance to junior staff, and play a central role in maintaining high standards of evidence-based, least restrictive care for our service users.

We are looking for a confident, compassionate leader who is committed to improving outcomes for people experiencing severe mental illness and who can support the ongoing development of a safe, therapeutic ward environment.

Main duties of the job

As Clinical Practice Lead, you will:

  • Provide senior clinical leadership and shift co-ordination, ensuring safe and effective care delivery across the ward
  • Deputise for the Ward Manager, supporting operational and clinical decision-making in their absence
  • Lead on complex risk assessment and management, including decisions relating to enhanced observation, seclusion, restraint and rapid tranquilisation, in line with Trust policy and least restrictive practice principles
  • Provide clinical supervision, mentorship and professional development support to junior and student nurses
  • Support the delivery of a service user-centred, multidisciplinary approach to care, ensuring individual, cultural and physical health needs are met
  • Contribute to audits, incident reviews, and Quality Improvement initiatives, helping to embed learning into everyday practice
  • Support compliance with the Mental Health Act, Trust policies, and professional (NMC) standards across the ward
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting a culture of openness, safety and continuous learning within the team

  • Significant experience at band 5 level or above
  • Working with people with mental health problems/ learning disabilities
  • Managing challenging and aggressive behaviour

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for complex patients
  • Knowledge of risk management and how to plan care to account for risk
  • Knowledge of supervision and reflective practices processes
