We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Children's Nurse to provide strong leadership and clinical expertise to Childrens Outpatient departments across the Trust; facilitating safe, high-quality care and patient experience to the children and families who use our services. The department delivers over 34,000 appointments per year, from 5 different sites at:
- University Hospital North Durham (UHND)
- Darlington Memorial Hospital (DMH)
- Bishop Auckland General Hospital (BAGH)
- Chester le Street Community Hospital (CLS)
- Stanley Primary Care Centre (SPCC)
Main duties of the job
The post holder will lead and manage the Childrens Outpatient clinical teams.
You'll ensure standards of care are set and delivered to a high standard and that these are regularly monitored and adapted appropriately in response to patient/carer feedback, audit findings and emerging evidence.
You will continually strive to improve the patient experience within the Outpatient environments, and through regular monitoring, accurate data collection and audit, you'll initiate improvements that will enhance the patient journey, ensuring services are delivered in line with local and national strategy and evidence-based care.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
In addition to Consultant, Nurse Specialist and Allied Health Professional clinics, our departments provide a wide range of services, including:
Paediatric phlebotomy (for secondary care and all GP surgeries in County Durham and Darlington)
Urgent child protection medical assessments- 5 days per week
Nurse led allergy skin prick testing
Oral food challenges
Objective Asthma testing
Patient education and the development of emergency care plans
Historic sexual abuse examination/investigations
Administration of monoclonal antibodies
You'll be responsible for co-ordinating staffing across multiple Trust sites, ensuring we have the right people with the right skills in the right place, as well as supporting staff to develop the wide-ranging skills required in the Outpatient departments.
You'll work alongside the Matron, Operational Manager and Service Administrator to ensure the effective use of resources and estate, and identify opportunities to continually improve the service.
You need to be able to travel independently to meet the extensive travel requirements of this role.
