Job summary

The Cancer Data Project Coordinator is a 12-month fixed term position. The successful candidate will work closely with the Cancer Data Project Manager and site-specific multidisciplinary teams to support delivery of a range of data improvement projects.

You will support the planning, coordination and delivery of data improvement projects under the direction of the Cancer Data Project Manager. This will include developing, maintaining and updating project documentation throughout the project lifecycle. In addition, you will work with relevant staff to facilitate active participation in all work streams and achieve the project aims.

Working across multiple NHS systems, you will identify data gaps and support the development of solutions, including data dashboards, reports, patient surveys and recommendations for service improvement.

We are looking for someone proactive,self-motivated, flexible and responsive to the changing needs and demands of the project within the Cancer Services Department

Main duties of the job

You will support the Cancer Data Project Manager to deliver all the project objectives, using strong administrative skills to update and maintain key documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Using your analytical skills, you will identify data gaps and opportunities for improvement, extracting and combining information from existing healthcare systems to create new reports designed to improve patient pathways and experience.

You will use excellent communication skills to work with clinical teams, patients and other key stakeholders, obtaining insight and information which will contribute to delivery of identified project outcomes.

With support from Cancer Data Project Manager, you will provide day to day supervision, support and guidance for two Band 3 Cancer Data Project Officers.

Job responsibilities

You will work across multiple healthcare systems to review existing data, data collection methodology and reporting functionality, identifying opportunities to create bespoke solutions. Working with Cancer Data Project Manager, you will consolidate data from multiple sources to support development of new reports, dashboards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). As part of the role, you will develop patient surveys, working directly with clinicals teams people affected by cancer to ensure they are completed.

You will keep track of the projects progress, ensuring all documentation is up to date and work collaboratively with colleagues and key stakeholders to support timely delivery of the project outcomes.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of using data capture systems for the collection, validation and reporting of information.
  • Experience of data collection, validation and reporting.
  • Ability to summarise and present data in an appropriate format
  • Experience of producing routine reports and summaries.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in the NHS.
  • Experience implementing quality improvement processes.
  • Experience of contributing to the development and maintenance of SOPs.
  • Experience of supporting patient surveys and analysing results.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics (Grades A-C).
  • NVQ 4 in business administration/BTEC Business diploma or equivalent experience/qualification

Desirable

  • Certificate/Diploma in Healthcare Informatics related subject or relevant experience

  • Ability to concentrate on tasks whilst managing frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to cope with exposure to details about patients that may be distressing.
  • Ability and willingness to travel across trust sites as required.

  • Possess a sound working knowledge of data collection, extraction and reporting.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, for data management and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently but also be a good team worker.
  • Able to demonstrate a responsible and mature approach to work and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate ability to work to specific deadlines.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify
  • problems and work with team to solve and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload.
  • Ability to communicate and work with a wide range of professional and administrative staff.

  • Knowledge of national standards relating to healthcare e.g. NICE guidance.
  • Knowledge of cancer pathways and audit reporting requirements
