Job overview

We are looking for a skilled Business Intelligence Developer to join our Digital Team and help deliver high‑quality data, reporting and insight to support clinical, operational and corporate decision‑making.

You will have strong experience in database development and Microsoft BI tools, including SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. Working closely with services and senior BI colleagues, you will design, develop and maintain robust dashboards, datasets and reporting solutions within agreed data standards and information governance frameworks.

Main duties of the job

BI Development & Reporting

  • Develop, maintain and enhance BI reports, dashboards and datasets using Power BI.
  • Write and optimise SQL queries, views and stored procedures to support reporting and analytics needs.
  • Build and support ETL and data integration processes using SSIS and Microsoft Fabric Pipelines, following agreed design standards.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of semantic models using SSAS (Tabular) and Fabric semantic models.
  • Ensure BI outputs are accurate, timely, clearly presented and aligned to user requirements.
  • Management of national data submissions, i.e. Commissioning Data Sets, Community Services Data Set, and the Emergency Care Data Set.
  • Development and management of Microsoft Power Platform products

Data Management & Quality

  • Work with multiple data sources, ensuring appropriate joins, transformations and validations are applied.
  • Database administration, management, and maintenance.

Continuous Improvement & Development

  • Contribute to the improvement of BI standards, reusable datasets and reporting approaches. Support the organisation’s transition to Microsoft Fabric, learning and applying new capabilities as directed. Keep skills up to date with developments in Microsoft BI stack’; Power BI, analytics tools, and Power platform

Information Resources/Information Systems

  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, Power BI and Microsoft Fabric, applying best practice in BI development
  • Actively develop skills in emerging Microsoft analytics capabilities, including Fabric Lakehouse, Warehouse and semantic models.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing within the team, including documentation of solutions, processes and standards.
  • Participate in relevant training, professional development and continuous learning activities.
  • Apply organisational standards and best practice in data modelling, ETL design, reporting and analytics delivery.
  • Support adoption of new tools, techniques and working practices across the BI function.
  • Develop, maintain and enhance BI reports, dashboards and datasets using Power BI.

  • Provide advice to users on the appropriate interpretation and use of BI products.
  • Support senior BI colleagues by contributing to documentation, testing and peer review of BI solutions.

  • Support the organisation’s transition to Microsoft Fabric, learning and applying new capabilities as directed.
  • Keep skills up to date with developments in SQL, Power BI and Microsoft analytics tools.

Essential

  • Good working knowledge of SQL Server and SQL query development

  • Relevant technical / professional qualifications at post graduate level.

  • Experience working with relational databases and structured datasets

  • Experience with Azure data services alongside Microsoft Fabric
