Breast Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (4 month fixed term post)

We are looking for a keen nurse for a fixed term post. You will be responsible to care and support people with breast cancer, and assist by ensuring patients’ experiences reflects their wishes. You will be pivotal in shaping and promoting the nursing vision and direction of the breast service.
The post holder will join the established breast cancer CNS team giving specialist information and support to those with early breast cancer and acting as Key Worker.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced nurse with relevant experience of either working directly with people with breast cancer or of working as a cancer CNS in another speciality with an interest in breast cancer.
Main duties of the job
- Provision of specialist, high quality, expert nursing care and support for patients and their carers with a diagnosis of breast cancer being assessed, co-ordinated or cared for within Imperial and in liaison with the multidisciplinary team and other health agencies.
- To perform an effective key role within the MDT to deliver cancer waiting times targets and pathways communication.
- To act as a specialist resource for patients and the clinical team by providing comprehensive advice, information, teaching and training both within ICHT and externally.
- Update own clinical and specialist knowledge. Contribute in audit processes. Undertake, where appropriate, nursing research with published outcomes.
- Promote excellence in clinical practice, and the setting of quality standards within specialty.
- Formulate an annual report/clinical audit of own CNS service and outcomes.
- Active involvement in the development of the service locally and nationally.

SKILLS AND ABILITY
Essential
- Leadership and motivational skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
Desirable
- European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Relevant post registration experience, in cancer or palliative care
- Experience of teaching
- In-depth specialist experience
- Leadership and management experience
- Able to conduct reflective practice and participates in clinical supervision facilitated by a level 3 / 4 practitioner
- Experience of multi-professional working
- Evidence of advanced communications skills
- Ability to lead and influence change
Desirable
- Previous experience of working as a clinical nurse specialist
- Experience of audit and research
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Registered General Nurse
- First level degree in related subject
- Evidence of Masters level learning or prepared to work towards
- Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care or relevant subject
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Level 2 psychological skills training as per recognised course or working towards
Desirable
- Research qualification
