Job overview

The BCYP Governance & Risk Lead will support the strategic and operational  leadership for clinical governance, risk management and patient safety across  Children and Young People’s (CYP) services. They will act as central point of contact  for all divisional governance activity and will provide support for the patient experience  team as required with complaints and patient feedback. They will support the  development and dissemination of the Patient Safety and Risk strategy within the  directorate. The postholder will be responsible for embedding a robust governance  framework that ensures high-quality, safe and effective care in line with RFL Group  and national standards.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the development of the current framework for implementing the Trust's risk  management strategy within the Clinical Directorate, coordinating department risk
  • Review panel meetings, providing reports on safety events and claims and support to the clinical leads for risk at the corporate governance committees.
  • Work in conjunction with the directorate management team and corporate  governance team towards meeting the relevant criteria as described in the standards set by the Care Quality Commission and any other National or local performance frameworks.
  • Work within the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) governance ensuring a coordinated and data driven approach to patient safety incident responses, focusing on system wide learning.
  • Work with investigation leads to support with the national system-based learning tools and to explore the contributory factors to patient safety event/s and to inform improvement, in line with patient safety incident response standards.
  • Identify problems, variations or areas of concern relating to clinical practice and liaise with the lead professionals to agree remedial action and assist in the setting and maintaining of standards. Be responsible for coordinating the process for Patient Safety Incident investigations for review by Safety event Review Panel and Clinical Governance Clinical Risk committee. Devise action plans and monitor the implementation of actions at SIRP.
