Job overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Band 7 Senior Clinician to provide day‑to‑day clinical leadership within the Alcohol Care Outreach Team,  alongside the Addiction Care Team at King’s College Hospital working as part of the Integrated Alcohol Care Pathway

This is a senior clinical role combining hands‑on work with people who have complex alcohol‑related needs, operational oversight of clinical activity, and line management of designated staff. The post‑holder will also contribute to a defined programme of service development projects that span both hospital‑based and community alcohol care.

The post offers an opportunity to take a leadership role within an innovative, integrated pathway that works assertively with people who experience repeated alcohol‑related harm, supporting improved engagement, continuity of care and safer outcomes across acute and community settings.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide day‑to‑day senior clinical leadership within the Alcohol Care Outreach Team, ensuring safe, effective and high‑quality care.
  • Hold a small caseload of individuals with complex alcohol‑related, mental health, physical health and social needs.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments, risk management and care planning, working collaboratively with service users and partner agencies.
  • Provide clinical supervision, line management, appraisal and development support to designated staff.
  • Act as a point of escalation for complex clinical and operational issues within the team.
  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement work across the integrated ACT and ACOT pathway.
  • Work closely with hospital‑based teams, community services and third‑sector partners to support smooth transitions and joined‑up care.
  • Support good governance, data quality, safeguarding practice and adherence to Trust policies and standards.
  • Deputise for the Clinical Service Lead where appropriate and within agreed scope.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post‑holder will provide senior clinical leadership and operational oversight within both ACOT and ACT, supporting the delivery of safe, person‑centred and recovery‑focused care for people with high‑need alcohol‑related presentations. This includes holding a small caseload of complex service users, completing thorough assessments, formulating and reviewing care plans, and supporting proactive risk management and safeguarding.

The role includes responsibility for the line management and clinical supervision of designated staff, supporting their development, wellbeing and confidence in managing complexity. The post‑holder will promote reflective practice, a positive team culture and effective multidisciplinary working.

Alongside core clinical leadership responsibilities, the post‑holder will contribute to a defined programme of service development and improvement work across the integrated Alcohol Care Pathway. This may include pathway development, standard operating procedures, data quality, partnership working and audit or evaluation activity. These projects will be agreed with the Clinical Service Lead and form a meaningful but secondary element of the role.

The post‑holder will work closely with the Operational Team Manager and Band 7 Lead Nurse to ensure consistency, communication and strong working relationships across hospital and community interfaces. Some evening and weekend working will be required in line with service need.
