An opening has arisen for a full time role Senior Band 7 Learning Disabilities Nurse to join the CAMHS Learning Disability team in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

CAMHS LD work with children up to 18 years old who have a Moderate to Severe Learning Disability and who experience a range of mental health needs and challenging behaviour.

The successful applicant will join a small established, and friendly multidisciplinary team consisting of Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing and Support Workers.

The post holder will provide specialist clinical assessment, formulation and treatment to young people and their families, specialist schools and the wider network.

The successful candidate will have an interest and experience in working with children and families with moderate to severe LD.

Main duties of the job

To work as the Advanced Nurse Practitioner / Lead Nurse in the CAMHS Learning Disability team across Bristol and South Gloucestershire, to ensure a clinically effective, high quality nursing service is provided to children and young people with learning disabilities and their families/carers.

The post holder will lead in improving the quality of support to children and young people with moderate to profound learning disabilities, to improve early identification and treatment of challenging behaviour and mental health issues in children and young people with learning disabilities.

The post holder will be a role model for learning disability nurses and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. They will be highly skilled in managing an active caseload, providing support, advice and health promotion as well as holistic care packages to children and young people with learning disabilities and their families/carers, whilst working as part of, and promoting joint working with the CAMHS/Learning Disability team. The post holder will be expected to offer consultation and training when required to professionals in their own and other agencies.

To work closely with the CAMHS Learning Disability team to review, audit, develop and implement strategic changes to achieve AWP Core Values and Targets in line with government initiatives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To plan and organise their own and duties and responsibilities, at the clinical, organisational and multi-agency level.

To ensure contemporaneous records are maintained, and to monitor clinical workload using agreed systems in accordance with professional codes of practice, policies, and procedures.

To promote a team approach to care within a multi-disciplinary framework, involving liaison and effective communication of confidential and sensitive information with other statutory and voluntary agencies.

To ensure that the CAMHS Learning disability team develops in line with AWP core values and outcomes, whilst following government recommendations and public health initiatives.

To be the lead nurse, working autonomously and effectively as part of the community learning disability service. The post holder will manage their own caseload, which will include children and young people with additional mental health difficulties and/or challenging behaviour.

To be familiar in identifying, assessing, and managing risk, through the use of a range of policies, procedures and assessment tools.

To ensure the legal frameworks relevant to work undertaken within CAMHS Learning Disability team are adhered to and followed.

To provide liaison, consultation, supervision and training to primary care professionals.

To support and work closely with colleagues and other professionals working at different levels.

To initiate and participate in training and education programs for student nurses on community placements.

To exercise awareness of professional responsibilities by making time to study current relative literature and continuing professional development in line with NMC Revalidation requirements.
