Job summary

The post holder will act as a Theatre Team Leader in ENT, coordinating clinical activity and deployment of staff within the peri-operative environment on a shift-by-shift basis. They will provide professional leadership, clinical expertise, supervision, and support to registered and unregistered staff whilst maintaining responsibility for the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based peri-operative care.

Main duties of the job

Acts as Theatre Team Leader in ENT theatres coordinating clinical activity, workforce deployment and patient flow within a designated peri-operative area. Provides clinical leadership, specialist advice and supervision to registered and unregistered staff.

Experience

Essential

  • *Significant post-registration peri-operative experience with exposure/ experience in coordinating a theatre list.
  • *Experience coordinating a theatre team or clinical area.
  • *Experience leading shifts or acting as nurse/ODP in charge.
  • *Experience managing patient safety incidents.
  • *Experience undertaking staff supervision and competency assessment.
  • *Knowledge of NatSSIPs, WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and GIRFT recommendations.
  • *Experience in leading a shift/ supervising staff.
  • *Experience in at least two peri-operative areas (anaesthetics, scrub, or recovery).
  • *Experience in managing clinical incidents and patient safety issues.
  • *Understanding of GIRFT, WHO Surgical Safety Checklists & NatSSIPs
  • *Specialist knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, implants, patient safety standards, infection prevention, and peri-operative pathways.
  • *Possess specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of peri-operative practice acquired through professional qualification, post-registration experience, continuing professional development and relevant to the speciality.
  • *Specialist knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and patient safety requirements.
  • *Knowledge of clinical governance, patient safety, and risk management.
  • *Understanding of workforce deployment, staff supervision, and resource management within a theatre environment.
  • *Knowledge of service improvement, audit, and quality assurance processes.
  • *Experience supervising, assessing, and supporting staff and students.
  • *Experience in participating in audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities.
  • *Knowledge of national Safety requirements associated with peri operative practice

Desirable

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Registered Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) or Registered Nurse (NMC).
  • *Degree/Diploma in Operating Department Practice or Nursing.
  • *Evidence of ongoing CPD relevant to peri operative practice (further study /education or short courses)

Desirable

  • *Practice assessor / supervisor.
  • *Post Graduate leadership or management course
