Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Nurse or Clinical Trial Coordinator to join the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Heart and Lung Research Institute Clinical Research Facility (VPD-HLRI CRF).

The VPD-HLRI CRF is a joint initiative between the University of Cambridge and Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, established to create a world-leading research environment that delivers high-impact clinical research with the potential to improve cardiovascular and respiratory health globally. The facility provides state-of-the-art infrastructure for the delivery of clinical trials and experimental medicine studies.

The VPD-HLRI CRF research team delivers a diverse portfolio of complex clinical research studies, including Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs). We are seeking an experienced Research Nurse or Clinical Trial Coordinator who is enthusiastic, motivated, proactive and able to work autonomously. The post will be based at the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Heart and Lung Research Institute and Royal Papworth Hospital, located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of the research team, you will support the delivery of clinical trials and experimental medicine studies across the VPD-HLRI CRF and RPH

*Coordinating and delivering research study activities.

*Organising study treatments and interventions.

*Arranging and conducting participant assessments.

*Coordinating follow-up visits and study procedures.

*Collecting and managing high-quality clinical research data.

*Ensuring study milestones are achieved within agreed timelines.

*Maintaining compliance with approved study protocols, regulatory requirements and ICH-GCP standards.

*Supporting the delivery of a portfolio of early-phase clinical trials, randomised controlled trials and observational studies.

*Promoting and maintaining a safe environment for research participants and staff working within the clinical research setting.

You will work closely with VPD-HLRI CRF colleagues, clinical research delivery teams, Research & Development departments and study sponsor representatives. The successful applicant will be expected to work with minimal supervision, effectively organising and prioritising their own workload while contributing to the successful delivery of high-quality clinical research.

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in clinical research, clinical audit or experience of working in a health or relevant science related environment, including healthcare research
  • The ability to mentor and educate junior staff.
  • An understanding of safeguarding policy and procedures including Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), particularly those related to vulnerable patients.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be able to problem solve, use own initiative and plan, organise and prioritise own and others' workload.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and a willingness to participate in further training and education.
  • Competent IT skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of accurate data collection and recording for clinical use.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional adult nursing or equivalent level science qualification; and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree level OR diploma level qualification or above.
  • Registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council or other regulatory body as applicable and/or NIHR CRP accreditation.
